Central District Sectional Seeding Meetings

On the D2 side of things, Martinez (LV) is back down to 106. Navin and Steffany both dropped a weight class. Tate from Mifflin dropped as well, after wrestling 170 last weekend, now at 152.

Reid (UA) is out. Sux for the Sr. Dial goes 70 as most expected. I really hadn't seen him at 70 other than the MIT and it looked as tho the cut hurt him then, maybe he is good now at that weight. Bobo (Whet) ff the match to Hinz to allegedly keep his seed over him worked to get the #1 seed but #3 seed jumped on his side so it ended up not really mattering in the long end of it.
Staten (MV) jumps on returning SP Yager's side of the bracket avoiding Laneza whom just recently beat him.
Does the 3 seed have the choice to move to the other side of the bracket?

They can pick any open line
  • cruiser_96
The #3 seed does have the choice to go top half or bottom half. However, he must go in the other quarter as the #1 and #2. (This is why some #3s end up on line 8 in the top half.

In a perfect world -scratch that - in a world in which common sense resides, bracketing would be pre-determined.

However, to spice things up, you can allow for choice but rules should apply in order to resemble some form of bracketing (matches working towards the best two wrestlers meeting in the finals).

In a world with choice + guidelines, it works like this...

    16-man bracket...check!
Number of max wrestlers...check! (We'll say 11 to match our current situation.)
BYEs: preset at lines 3, 14, 11, and 6, and then the fifth BYE going to line 7.
Number of actual wrestlers: let's go 10.

at this point an additional BYE would be entered into the bracket and done so at line 10.

The #1 seed can pick wherever he'd like to go. If he picks the top half (any open line), the #2 seed MUST pick an open line on the bottom. Now, with the #1 and #2 seeds in place, the #3 gets to choose. In this case the #3 must go in one of the two open quarter brackets. Once he chooses, the #4 seed must choose the remaining open quarter bracket.

And so on, and so forth. It really shouldn't be as complicated as it last night seemed to be. BYEs...on line 16!?!?!?!?! Buh!!! Or as the whippersnappers say, SMH.

Issues? Maybe ITC should run this meeting instead of the CD....I'm sure there are few with the grasp of the intricacies of bracketing like you two...:)

I still like it that way if there is case where a wrestler ends up with a 1 seed that you feel is not correct you have the choice to move to the same side and in some cases it does provide the chance to see truly the best two in the finals looking at some seeds it seems this may have been the case last night. The best part is we won't need to wait long to find out.

Coach Hennosy;1579192 wrote:"He was first team all state in football" ... I must admit, I said this. It was my first sectional seeding meeting ... but still not a good excuse.

"Agree...but I do see some merit in that argument. If a wrestler with a .500 record who has wrestled a brutal schedule comes up against a kid with...let's say a 20-14 record wrestling a patty-cake schedule...well... just sayin'"

We currently have a kid with this resume. Rankings per Boro:

    D I
    #2
    #3
    #6
    #16
    #19
    #30
    D II
    #1
    #6
    #20
    D III
    #1
    #12

I think there's a couple more in the 31-40 range of each division. Of course this and .25 won't get him a phone call nor a #1 seed.
Looks like your wrestler got a #2 seed?

No matter where you're seeded at, you have to beat everyone to win (for you cruiser) ITC: thumbup:. But a huge thank you for your ITC videos... You two are probably the best thing to happen to central Ohio wrestling as far as promoting. I'm hearing parents + kids talking ITC.

    Nice job guys!!!

Yes he did. He has wrestled some outstanding kids all year long ... at least 2 went in to OT. Now is the time to get the win.

Bribacker51 and hang_loose have it right. Seeds are overrated. Over-analyzing it is futile. There are too many variables: record, strength of schedule, even hot mom...all are too subjective. Sometimes even the mother-of-all-trump-cards, head-to-head criteria, is wrong (the rankers of the world know this...one wrestler is ranked above another who has beaten him by the reasoning of "body of work".) As a coach, I love the option for a 3 seed to jump on the 1 seed's side. As with every tournament, the best two wrestlers will meet in the finals. Seeding is meaningless. There is no "body of work" on tournament day. There is only performance.
If the "ideal #2 wrestler" loses in the semis...or, better yet, the quarters: so sorry. If a #2 hasn't scored enough points to overcome a late controversial call: so sorry. You weren't the #2 today, buddy. Better suck it up and shake it off quickly or you'll be watching the district tournament. With hope, the upset seeded wrestlers of the world have been coached up all season to handle that and overcome it.
ATTENTION WRESTLERS reading this thread, the ones who scour the ranking wires, the ones who analyze every little score and detail, let me state this plainly: Once the whistle blows, all bets are off. Rankings mean nothing. Seeds mean nothing. This is true for the #1 seed as much as it is for the unseeded wrestler. Go get 'em!
Best of luck to all tomorrow.

Amen. Once the whistle blows, it's all irrelevant.
  • HorseShoe289
One addendum to my post: Though they mean nothing on tournament day, I am glad seeds exist. (Many thanks to the ITC boys, passionate fans, supportive dads, and all others who rank and discuss, rank and discuss. By all means, keep it up!) Without seeds and rankings, UPSETS, the most glorious part of all sports, would be impossible.

Just remember that it is a qualifier. As long as top 4 you move on. Top 4 in district you move on. Only the final State tournament does placement count. I have seen many 4th sectional wrestlers move on the next week. It aint over until that 2nd lose. Wrestle hard. Some good wrestler just wants it to be over and some hungry kid will take him out regardless of seed or record. Good time of year!

Tate has been at 160 (weight-wise) all year, just wrestled up occasionally along with Frazier. The cut was easy.

HorseShoe289: as we give our ranks and predictions, we try our best to communicate the idea find in your excellent post. Tomorrow, all our work will have zero merit.

Put your foot on the line, and get after it!!!

113# MVille-Why would OLib place their wrestler on the line to wrestle CC first? Weren't there better choices?
