Pirate Holiday Duals at Cardington, 1/2/2010

  • ChampsDad
This is the sixth year for this tournament. The twelve teams which will be competing this year are:

    Ayersville
    Bluffton
    Cardington
    Coshocton
    Milan (Michigan)
    Monroe Central
    Northmor
    Plymouth
    River Valley
    Sandusky St. Mary
    Waynedale
    Zane Trace

These are all Division III teams, except for the team from Michigan, which would be equivalent to a large D2 or small D1 school in Ohio. Milan took the team championship trophy back across the border with them last year. Which Ohio team(s) in this year's field have what it takes to prevent that from happening again?

In the information I sent to the coaches about the tournament, I offered the opportunity for any adults associated with each team who wanted to work as a mat scorer, mat timer, or to help at the head scorer's table the opportunity to do so. Several coaches said sure, but only one actually confirmed somebody who wanted to work.

So, I am going directly to the parents and fans coming to the tournament with their teams: I can't offer you money (Only the guys in the striped shirts get paid to work at our tournament, and it costs me money to do this!), but you will get free admission to the tournament, a copy of the program booklet, a tournament T-shirt, and free food in the hospitality room. If you're interested, please contact Larry Smith at [email protected] or call 419-688-0268.

O.K., I got a couple of responses so far. It is still not too late to get in on this. We will have enough workers, but if a few more people want to help, then we can provide relief for some of the others.

    Thanks a bunch

Did Coshocton and River Valley wrestle in round 5?
  • ChampsDad
Yes, I'm sorry, I omitted that one. I have edited my original post to includ that result. Based on Round 4 semi-finals you would expect Coshocton vs. Cardington and River Valley vs. Milan in the finals. However, since only the third place and first place duals were for trophies, the coaches involved chose to wrestle different teams instead of wrestling a re-match in a dual tournament.

Thanks ChampsDad, you did a great job of reporting.

I just wanted to say from a Waynedale Fan who worked this tournament- Thank you for being such a spectacular host. I can only speak for the ladies of Waynedale but we enjoyed your school and the coach's wife is an awesome ambassitor for your wrestling program......kudos to you.

The Waynedale folks are great, and I was relieved to have some of them volunteer as table workers. I have known Don Beam and his sons for several years. When we had the first edition of this tournament five years ago, Waynedale was supposed to be one of the teams but had to withdraw after that awful ice storm that left all of their school buildings without head and power for a long time leading up to the tournament. I have been trying to get them to come back, but this is the first time that it has worked out.

Next year's tournament will be Monday, December 27. I hope that will fit with your schedule.

One more correction to the results, which I have made above: The Milan-Cardington score in the finals was 39-36, not 39-34. There was an error in addition on the score sheet.

good day of wrestling. Another Bear here who worked a table...as always, happy to help. Thanks for the shirt and this is one the the BEST hospitality rooms with homemae food I have been too.

Thanks guys you did a fine job!!! I would only suggest cutting back the down time a little. Its rough making the 1 hour and a half drive. Hope to see ya next year
