How are the numbers looking so far ?
  • ChampsDad
Good. I have received several mail-in registrations and also some "E-mail registrations" paid for using PayPal. I have also received commitments from some of the local clubs to bring a group. It's hard to predict numbers, since no matter how much I try to encourage advance registrations, the vast majority are always walk-ins, either at the evening weigh-in the day before, or the morning weigh-in the day of the tournament. All I can do is compare to how many we had the same number of days ahead of the tournament the last couple of years, and in that respect we are looking good.

Friends, I will not be as quick to answer your E-mail and phone messages today (Friday, January 1) and tomorrow, but if you're a coach sending in weights by E-mail or a parent sending in registration information by E-mail, I'll get back to you, just not as quickly. We have our varsity tournament tomorrow, which is why we'll have six mats for the youth tournament on Sunday. I'll be helping some today with setup for our varsity dual tournament, and I'll be extremely busy all day tomorrow until the tournament is over.

Please so not bombard me with questions about how many kids we have for a particular bracket. What I can tell you is that last year we found someone for everybody to wrestle, and this year's advance registrations and inquiries are running a little higher than last year. A rule of thumb the last two years is that over three fourths of our entries have been walk-ins.

Just come on in and wrestle. If you want a guarantee of a six man bracket for your son, I can't give it to you, but if you bring him, that bracket will be one wrestler bigger.

Another thing that we have traditionally done is exhibition matches. If your sone finds someone he wants to wrestle who is not in his bracket, and the other kid (and his parents) agrees, after they are both done with their "official" matches they can come to the head table and we will fill out a bout sheet and assign them to a mat.

O.K., we're ready to go for the New Year's Brawl. If everyone comes who said they would, we should have more wrestlers than we did last year, and we had a lot of five and six man round robin brackets at last year's tournament.
