Cruise -- Keep an eye on CC's Kameron Teacher. He may have an impact on the HWT ITC round robin at the PIT.

He was DQ last year out of the tough Westland sectional. Not sure he has the stuff to challenge Rollo, but I could see him giving some of the smaller heavies fits (Kinzer, Nader, Jewell, etec).

Looks like a good one, any good matchups expected ?

This has become one of my favorite tournaments of the year. Always a great prep tourney right before all the holiday tournaments. Keep it up pick north staff.

Jewell won't be there. This is Hamilton's B Team. The varsity is wrestling in Johnson City, Tenn on the same day.

As long as Mrs. Pickpanther and Momma Pickpanther and the taxman are running the show, it'll be great.
I believe those schools have high school age kids who are ready to wrestle.
The team with the most points wins.
    I'm talking.
PN will be there. Probably in singlets.

    :)

Hasbeen is a clown. 3 "pops" and he starts telling "jokes"!!!

baumspage has a few results for Troy and Valley View. I will also look through the statewide rankings for some names from those teams.

Pretty tough tournament for a B team
  • It is what it is
Darby will be tough, but I'm calling it right now.............
    CC.....HS!! : thumbup:

Campbell County (KY) will bring some competitive kids throughout the weight classes, but they do have two nationally ranked kids at 138 (fausz) and 220 (myers).

I was think the same, unless of course you are an Eds or Perry B.

Wow, is Hamilton Twp that deep ?

Campbell county is solid, but they had a few open weight classes at a tourney earlier in the . I'm going with Darby followed by CC..jmo
  • pickpanther
Hamilton Township will no longer be attending this tournament. Groveport Madison and Whetstone will be added.

i know that Valley View has some pretty good lower weights with the Bussard brothers. Troy has a good 182 (McGraw) and 285 (Dalton).

You could also see Smith HD vs Wimer CC as I know Wimer is wrestling up at 132 or 138 not sure but if both would be in same weight that would make for a real highlight match!

Wow, that would be a great match at 132!!

Lakso is a solid 106. I always like watching him wrestle. For some reason he is underestimated. Very athletic kid.

^^^^agree, he's quick and fun to watch. What time does this start ? Is it true everyone gets 2 pounds ?

Why in the world do the people that run this Pick North tourney, with so many quality teams and wrestlers, choose to run it in such a goofy pool tournament format? At least last years tournament the top two from the pools wrestled for the top places. This season, if you lose in the pool the best you can do is 5th? With no coaches meeting or proper seeding meeting? Seems silly.
  • cruiser_96
westsider: your statement of losing once/the best they can get is 5th is only true in weight classes with 4 4-man pools. If there are 12 kids in a weight class, then the top two in the pool come out enabling a one loss kid to make the finals.

To me, it has everything to do with the 5-match limit, and I agree...THAT is silly.(4 4-man pools gives three matches within the pool, a semifinal and a final...5 matches. If you bring out the top two in for man pools, you'd have three matches within the pool and then a quarterfinal, a semifinal (there are your five matches) and then a final (a sixth match which no one could wrestle. To me, running a tournament that way would be silly!!! :D )
  • Dust_E_Roads
^^ Agree. I think it is a good compromise to get the most kids the most matches without violating the 5 match rule. The alternative is 16 man bracket. You can lose and still get third, but a lot of kids will only get 2 matches.

The downside of the pool setup as arranged is that it puts critical importance on seeding and setting of pools. A very good wrestler could end up no higher than 5th just because he happened to be pooled with the #1. Or even more obtusely, the 6th best wrestler out of the whole tournament could miss the finals entirely, if he happens to be pooled with #1 and #5. Seen that happen too.

It is what it is. Fortunately, we have lots of tournaments, with lots of different formats and kids get tons of matches throughout the season. That's what matters most in my opinion.
