Cent. Dist. next year

coachchucki think the difference is how many of our good wrestlers do multi sports in the other leagues you got track baseball and lacrose in the spring alone if they are involved in one of those it swallows up alot of their time how many of those kids go to the open mats we struggle in the upper weights with them being so spread out in those other sports in the spring when u can make huge gains before the football season hits with its prep in june i know i wrestled in the spring my last three years in high school and it was tough but i wanted to be a good wrestler

Mutt cutsI would agree that the upper weight quality was down in terms of depth this year. I don't believe that we should solely blame football for our failures at the state level. I think in part you can see that you typically will not get a huge influx of underclassmen in the upperweights. Kids tend to grow into those weight classes. Historically the central district tends to have great upper weights every couple of years. Think back four years ago when 171 was stacked in the central district. I think we had four state placers between the groveport, pick north, darby, etc kids. The one weight where we have consistantly failed to produce is 215/220. There are years when Moeller, Wadsworth, and ST. EDs have great football programs and no upper weights as well. St. Eds wasn't exactly loaded in the upper weights this year, and did anyone hear much of anything out of Wadsworth this year. Things go in cycles.

He is the real deal and will be special. I was real impressed by what i saw of him the first time at Sectional. Great mat wrestler.
I do still disagree with the poster who put that out tho..."will be ROLLING to State!"
Unnecessary post putting a target on a young kid like that. Made it seem like it would be a cake walk.[/QUOTE
I agree Lites. I didn't like that statement at all. Also I was very impressed with Hinkle but let's face it 132 was a completely different weight without Donatelli. He arguably could have won Darby. So him not being there made the road much easier for the other guys. -
hang_loosePlus track and baseball! Hilliard has been putting well rounded (not fat) athletes for years.

IMO, it starts LONG before junior high in Marysville! A solid youth program was started 15 years ago, and I believe that is one reason why Marysville now consistently sends 6, 7, 8 guys to the state tournament, and many are standing near the top (or in the case of 2013 at the top) of the podium at the end of the event.pinem07;1399988 wrote:Delaware Hayes is gonna be tough for years to come. I've heard from a pretty reliable source they have a very solid junior high team that has some studs and some good coaching. Once you get the junior high going, the high school talent will start to show. example:Marysville. -
SDDadMaverick15;1401591 wrote:Unfortunately for central ohio this is not so much the case. Our lower weights do superior at states while our middle to upper weights have not had near as much success the past few years. Just becuase they are bigger and stronger does not make them better. It would be smart for anyone to get as high in weight as possible. Get away from all the little studs and wrestle where the talent is a little more diluted. There are still some tough kids at these weights, but not near as condensed as 106-126.
I think you're missing his point. Most of the stud freshman that wrestle 106/113 do not stay there for their junior and senior years. Most of these 106/113 pounders have grown into the 120/126/132/138/etc... weight classes by the time they are juniors and seniors. As with most kids, these studs are better wrestlers as juniors/seniors than they were when they were freshman.... but now they are in the middle weights. -

Sincere curiousity question: What % of the Marysville team, varsity at least, are multi-sport guys? I know guys like Nate Weeks, a few years back, used to do both football and wrestling at a high level. I also know new FB coach Cotter did both exceptionally well. Just curious as to how many of the current team are year-round guys vs. multi-sport guys.ontheline;1403031 wrote:IMO, it starts LONG before junior high in Marysville! Blast82.5Lots of these guys will grow ... Don't be surprised when some are up 3 or 4 classes from their 8th-grade OAC weight.
-
HilliardDadAre the two Desales lightweights on the list the ones that have been working out at the Capitals Club? Pretty sure Cameron was, Was Mead?
Also, Austin Rayburn, Hilliard Darby (2nd in District, 2-2 at state) likely 113 or so. -
95 PounderThanks Hilliard Dad, I will add him to the list.
-
95 Pounder
yes, I am aware of that. I have added one, two or even three weight classes to the above mentioned wrestlers on where they could end up at in high schoolBlast82.5;1403844 wrote:Lots of these guys will grow ... Don't be surprised when some are up 3 or 4 classes from their 8th-grade OAC weight. -
Tony Mead
Mead has been training with Collin Palmer, the two Desales kids would be Broskie and Cua. Desales has a good group of kids coming in next year!HilliardDad;1403876 wrote:Are the two Desales lightweights on the list the ones that have been working out at the Capitals Club? I thought the Meade kid came at the end. He looks real tough if that was him. -
ksig489Josiah Harrell (Licking Heights) wont be above 145 next year
LH also had L.A. Kelly and Garrett Sommerkamp at OAC state this year...Kelly won a couple matches and will likely be a 126 or 132 next year...Sommerkamp will be 285.
LH has a very good incoming freshmen class next year. -
pin&winI would add jacob martinez to that list of incoming freshmen.
-
westsiderYou sure Martinez isn't being "redshirted" again? Not sure if we'll ever see that boy in high school!

knightflyer150Even though most coaches have an idea of where they want kids to land, most don't have a crystal ball. I went home from our banquet last week and did a possible depth chart for next year, tried to show it to my wife, eventually giving up and calling my brother to share it with him. At the end of the day, we won't know where most kids are until fall...but it's fun to speculate.
