Central District 3 Biggest Suprises
-
M5 GrapplerHey All! What an exciting Darby Districts
First, Cudos to Darby, First class all the way. From the tournament to the hospitality room. Thank you, Ladies ( and gentleman). Great experience. Great Wrestling. Thanks to "Inside the Circle" Great Drama.
Have fun and list your three biggest Darby District Suprises. Here's mine.
1. Quality of Qualifiers - I pay attention to numbers and the Central District has improved on State Tournament wins every year but one in 10 years. And this years crop will do as well if not better.
2. Officiating: On paper I thought this was a solid crew. But I have to admit I was a little suprised at the number of controversial occurences this weekend. I do believe it is not as easy as it may look, but this year seemed loaded w/ controversy
3. Youth Movement: Is it me, or are there an extraordinarily large amount of underclassmen making statements this year? I know there are always some youngins' makin noise, but the future looks bright in the Central District.
Who's your suprise ? What team impressed? What meal was the best? Post Here! -
cruiser_96Thanks for posting this!!!
#1) thanks for the props for "Inside The Circle". It was easy and fun. Also, and I failed to mention this earlier but will now, of the 224 wrestlers in this District tournament, how many received stories concerning their wrestling ability. (Granted, Gahanna had a kid get some press, but it seemed that his newfound success wasn't the main story. [And Mama Nader... The story was VERY!!! inspiring. Please, please don't read me wrong!!!!!]) but our main point with the white board predictions was all about recognizing the kids' efforts on the mat.
#2) The folks at Darby DO IT RIGHT!!!!!! And my favorite thing... Kids, parents, teachers, alumni, etc. you name it, they've got it, and they are participating. Awesome!!!
#3) Biggest surprise: Westerville North. Consider yourself warned. They are quite impressive. Pickerington Central and Upper Arlington also did quite well!
#4) I'm tired. I'll revisit later. -

Get some well deserved rest. Congrats to one of the youngins' I'm talkin about. Laney is tenacious. The kid seems to appreciate what he has accomplished. Good to see. And good luck to him next week. -

Agree on Laney for sure! I don't think a single person in that room was disappointed with the way that weight class played out. That kid clearly wrestled his butt off and EARNED his spot!M5 Grappler;1395084 wrote:Get some well deserved rest. Congrats to one of the youngins' I'm talkin about. Laney is tenacious. I can think of a few that we're probably disappointed. "Curse of the white board"bump_and_run;1395129 wrote:Agree on Laney for sure! I don't think a single person in that room was disappointed with the way that weight class played out. That kid clearly wrestled his butt off and EARNED his spot! -
cruiser_96#Whiteboard
We had a suggestion to go to a SMARTBoard for next year. Hmmm. Not a bad idea. I do dislike writing on them, however, we could just make an excel sheet and just drag the name over. Or suck it up and write on the SMARTBoard!!!
Personally, I kind of like whiteboard. But I ain't hatin. -
pinem07Keep the whiteboard!! If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

pinem07Little preview for next year(I know this year isn't over, but interesting to look at young teams):
Marysville-Don't see them being pushed off the top of the podium. Losing some big points in Forrider, Boyd and Miller but still have a stable of studs.
Hilliard Davidson-Returns 4 of their 8 dist. qualifiers, including Wilson and Gusan. Smith comes back and potential for a very high state placing. Maybe a down year, but can never doubt Dom Disabato.
West. North-Returns 7 of 11 dist. qualifiers. Very young team and look out for them next year with all 4 state qualifiers returning. Could they push Marysville for a title?
Pick. Central- Returns 10 of 12 district qualifiers but lose Sunkle and Bondurant. Still a very tough dual team and could potentially win their region again. Could Allen get back on top of the Darby board with this team next year?
Lancaster and Gahanna lose their big points and don't see them finishing as high next year. Darby loses 5 of 9 d.q.'s and might be a rebuilding year. Mt. Vernon has some young guns and could finish just as high or higher. Deleware Hayes and Olen. Liberty should be interesting to watch in the next couple of years. -

A bit confusing in the underlined portion. I would assume you meant "lose 4 of 8 which include Wilson and Gusan. Smith returns..."pinem07;1395780 wrote:Little preview for next year(I know this year isn't over, but interesting to look at young teams):

kennypowersI think Lancaster will be better. They lose Bond and Funk but have another Deluse that couldn't make the line up and maybe another one coming up?

UnderratedDon't forget Delaware Hayes. They return all 8 district qualifiers from this season and 1 from 2012 who was out all season with an injury. They also have a couple of Freshman who will make an impact in the lighter weights. They will be a very tough dual team and should be towards the top of the board at Darby next season.

pinem07A little wordy Cruiser, thanks for the clarification. You have it right. Underrated, I mentioned them at the bottom and have heard great things happening in the high school and junior high. Just not too familiar with certain kids on the team and coming up. Wouldn't surprise me if they make a top 5 or even top 3 finish at districts in the next couple years.

bump_and_runThe Great Eight! lol! Delaware was tough this year! I hope you guys stay healthy all off season and next year so you can show what you're capable of. I have to say, i think some of Hayes' kids looked the most improved this year for sure -- sorry can't think of names right now, but I'm thinking of the 45 and one of the lighter kids. Anyway, props to all of them!!
