Darby day 2

  • Shoot and Sprawl
    Upsets in the semis
    106:
    Furnas over Gutierrez
    Laney over Nace
  • The2cKDude
Sparks over Rooney at 126! May not be a huge upset, but I think most thoight Rooney would win.
  • pugluv
Staten and Lybarger both lose in semis...Jake Ryan TF Black...Nate Hall MajDec in Semi over West North...Crumb defaults to Dublin kid losing 7-3, in which he tried a dumb throw with 10 secs left in the 1st, while up 2-1...
  • Dad4Sports
Congrats to Canal Winchester's Max Lacey.....SQ at 220. He was losing 8-0 to Crumb (who he had lost to in the sectional finals, 18-10), but rallied for a thrilling 13-12 win and a trip to the Schott.

Head ref was ready to start OT with the whistle in his mouth when the second ref interjected. Wimer had a leg... No escape. It should have been solved in OT, he had no business giving a point after regulation was well over.

Wimer scored two unanswered takedowns to tie it. It wasn't out of the question for him to win it in OT.

Either way congrats to Dooley. It's tough to lose first found and fight all the way back. Good kid.

Lots of good rasslin' Day 2.

Ryan and Forrider look like the class of Central Ohio. Wow! [That was a 'news flash', I know ] They were just really impressive today.

The 220's were good too. Crumb caught Smith again, to finish 5th. Impressive for a Frosh.

Struttman stuck Lacey in a quick one. Lacey got the take down and appeared to have Struttman down for the pin, Struttman spun him for the pin instead. (I think we'll see a Struttman v. Crumb final next year).

Miller vs. Mowery was a close on with plenty of drama. Far closer than the sectional matchup was. There was a lot of action on the edge of the circle and this resulted in some calls and non-calls that got the crowd pretty excited. A questionable (in my opinion) late stalling call on Miller sent it OT at 2-2. In the extra session, Miller got another take down on the edge of the circle to win 4-2. Lots of studs at 220.

Gusan v. Akutsu IV was probably the best one yet, in my opinion. Gusan got an escape and leg take down for the 3-0 win. There were a couple of BIG throws by Gusan that did not score (out 0f bounds) and a near takedown by Akutsu out of bounds also. Will be interesting to see if we see a 5th edition at the Schott next week.
  • Shoot and Sprawl
Anthony Trocchio, Senior from Dublin Scioto
in his consi "to go" match, down 4-3 with :23 seconds to go - gets up from a hard illegal slam.
Your name won't be in the program next week at the schott, but you're what this sport is about.
I respect the hell out of you.

    yes and yes.
It's that moment when you're laying there, knowing that if you don't get up, you are going to the State tournament, but you get up anyway because you know you can.
    That's Integrity
and that's not something everyone has, But Anthony Trocchio does.
I know that about him now, and he will for the rest of his life.

Similar situation at Heath with Robinson and Turner at 220...Robinson big slam (not illegal or intentional), but Turner and his coaches agreed he was fine to continue...much RESPECT to Turner and the Whitehall coaches!!

Props to UA's boys and coaching staff, DiBenedetto is a warrior who's tenacity has State tourney staying power and Reid can wrestle fast and loose with the best of them. First SQ's in 3-4yrs.

Random thoughts- Forrider and Ryan are obviously real nice, Walker is a man, 2 of the top 4 Hvy places come out of Darby.

    Represent central OH---------IO.

If the score was 4-3 when he was slamed shouldn't he have been given 1pt. at the very least?? This would have put it into overtime with a chance still to win........

Truley a sham Anthony will not be at the Schott. You are a great kid Anthony with a drive and a work ethic second to none! I'm glad at the very least people got a chance to see that on display. Your future is VERY bright!!!!

The 4-3 includes the pt for the slam. it was 4-2 pre-slam and 4-3 after the point was awarded.

From were I was sitting they awarded the point when his hands became unlocked around the leg and they were both squared up. Either way great match from both. Little winery gets out next year.
