i have been wondering where this is! come on guys, let's build some excitement! to that end, i will make a sad attempt at the D1 Central R5 and R6 contests. i apologize for the lack of analysis lol. also, i am too lazy and short on time to check recent dual results to see if these guys have matched up lately!!

#3 OO vs. #6 DC: OO. artem will flex and DC will forfeit lol
#7 WC vs. #2 Hayes: Hayes
#4 Ashland vs. #5 Olentangy: I like Ashland here, but not by much
#8 DS vs. #1 Marysville: Marysville

#3 HB vs. #6 WS: Bradley beat South at the recent Tri, correct? HB
#7 Whetstone vs. #2 WN: WN
#4 Thomas Worthington vs. #5 Worthington Kilbourne: Already wrestled. TW rolled. TW again.
#8 New Albany vs. #1 HD: HD

#3 Col. West vs #6 Central Crossing: I think CC pulls this one out.
#7 Franklin Heights vs. #2 Upper Arlington: UA. FH is just too thin in numbers.
#4 Grove city vs. #5 Westland: Westland
#8 GM vs. #1 HD: HD (sorry cruiser!)

#3 TV vs #6 Gahanna: TV. More depth.
#7 WM vs #2 PC: This is my underdog pick (no pun intended). WM by criteria.
#4 Lancaster vs. #5 PN: PN
#8 Rey. vs. #1 MV: MV

Really, 1 mat for just the 4 teams?
Im sure the officiating logistics had more to do with that than anything else.

    Nice work.
I think we will see some more talk next week. Doesnt really look like too many disputed tilts in this first rd. you got wm over pc...wow.
I personally cant wait for this!!!!
  • nykc
Pretty spot on but I think Grove City will edge Westland - Westland just doesn't have any depth.

Why not? I think it is a great idea. It will give the general public a chance to actually follow the teams and the tournament. Having two mats running at the same time takes away from each dual. Plus planning specific start times is a huge bonus for the general public. May not mean much in the first round since it looks like a lot of one sided match ups but as the tournament progresses it will even make it better. It really is no different than the hs basketball teams playing their JV games at 6:00 and following them with the Varsity game about 20 minutes after its conclussion.

First dual starts at 6. Give an hour and a half for the entire dual. 7:30. Twenty minutes after that the next dual starts. 7:50. Give another hour and a half. 9:20.

Bus rides for away teams will get them back to school after 10.
Clean up for home team will get them home after 10.

    On a school night.

    That is why not.

oh heck back in my day we didn't start tipping cows until 10 on school nights. had to wait for farmer john's REM sleep to kick in. and anyway i bet most days half these kids are up until 11:30 watching family guy re-runs on netflix! they'll be fine.

The likelihood of them doing homework at a wrestling dual is far less than while they are at home watching Family Guy re-runs. I care more about the kids having enough time at night to do their schoolwork than I do fans being unable to focus on a single match. By keeping them this late, you are giving them an excuse. I'd rather give them opportunities.

Why wait 20 minutes in between duals?? I don't see the 45 minutes in between matches as a problem. Start at the next weight class and let 'er rip.

On another note, I've got 2 high school kids. There's no way they are watching TV that late or staying up like that if they don't have homework. Who has time for anything other than practice after school then come home, eat and do homework? By the time the get home at 6:00 or 6:30 eat dinner and be finished by 7:30 they have plenty of homework to occupy them until 10 or 11.

Grove City already beat Westland in the Joe Stora Duels
  • cruiser_96
Not really an upset but GM over HDav.

    See you guys next week!!!

Two matches on one mat in one night on a school night. Is this going to be the same set up for January 30th? That would mean we would wrestle DeSales (no disrespect to Linden), then Whitehall would wrestle either JA or Mifflin, and then the winners would wrestle each other? I hope that is not the case, because then you are looking at three matches on one mat in one night on a school night.
  • theviking
no next week you have two mats ,the winners will wr after 20min 6pm-730? then 20 min then WR 750- ?

Basketball teams have been doing this for YEARS and for regular season games. It would also be a great opportunity for you as a parent/coach to teach time management skills. Is there a written law where kids can only do schoolwork after an event? School out 2:30ish. Weigh Ins 5:00. Travel Time 1 hour so bus leaves at 3:45. Let's do the homework from 2:30-3:45 and then if necessary complete it when you get home.

I assume the 20 minute break is to allow time for each team to warm up.

Another reason not to do it this way: separate ourselves from basketball!

I will accept your point about homework prior to the dual. Where do they make up the lost sleep?
I don't like extending events into the later evening hours. Especially when the reasoning is to make it better for the fans.

PC wins here. By quite a few, especially if they win (and it is very possible) at 120, and 126. Just my guess, crazier things have happened though.
