Sectional seeding

kennypowersHave any coaches gotten any information on team seeding for sectionals? The draw meeting is the 27th so I would assume we should be getting something soon?
-
cruiser_96It will most likely come out over the next three days.
Gotta give Dr. King some love first.
Did you know... The now-famous "I Have A Dream" speech was not originally entitled "I Have A Dream"!? I'm not sure of the actual title, but I do remember it was NOT "I Have A Dream".
And in all honesty, I thought "Letters from a Birmingham Jail" was a better read. -

Did you know...the reason it was not originally 'I have a dream' is because from "I have a dream" on was completely adlibed. The only part of the speech that was written down was everything before that moment.cruiser_96;1370717 wrote: Did you know... As for the original question...I got my info Thursday from my AD, so check with them and make sure they didn't delete the info. Team info must be submitted by 3:00pm Tuesday Jan 23rd. -
Con_AlmaWhat's the meeting for? Provide criteria that will be used, apply it to the entrants and then send the brackets to the coaches. There's not a lot to discuss. It should be subjective at all. It should also be the same criteria used in every sectional across the State but that would be asking too much.

1prouddadI think they are talking about seeding teams. In Central Oh, teams are seeded then the teams choose which sectional they want to attend- from lowest seed to highest. I think Central Oh is the only place they do this.

that's what I thought. first meeting is to seed teams to see who goes to which sectional.1prouddad;1370857 wrote:I think they are talking about seeding teams. once you know the teams that are coming, then you can seed the wrestlers. -
bigkgizzleWe got our team seeding info for central Ohio. On the 23rd we have to start voting for teams and their seeds. Then on the 27th we'll know where are sectionals will be. The individual seeding meeting is like the first week of Feb.

knightflyer150I did not get my stuff as of Friday, so I emailed Bruce Gerber and got my log in info. We start voting TUESDAY so get on it, I guess.

1prouddadJust curious what you coaches out there think- is being a host school a disadvantage? You obviously don't get a choice of where you go.
Thoughts? -

It can be the host schools in D2 have not got alot of guys out recently -

Actually, unless recent rules have changed, host schools can opt to travel elsewhere if they wanted. I could be totallyy wrong but i think there has been a school to do that recently (as in the last 5-10 years)1prouddad;1370884 wrote:Just curious what you coaches out there think- is being a host school a disadvantage? 1_beastWhy do only some regions get the choice of where they go to sectionals? Why is it not assigned?

This is my understanding as well.wraith51;1370909 wrote:Actually, unless recent rules have changed, host schools can opt to travel elsewhere if they wanted. I could be totallyy wrong but i think there has been a school to do that recently (as in the last 5-10 years) -

Being part of the State tournament, this is foolish that it's permitted. This either needs to take place across the state or not at all. Consistency isn't an unreasonable expectation across the entire tournament.1prouddad;1370857 wrote:I think they are talking about seeding teams. I've thought about this... Is it that we (Central District) are being given preference, or are we taking advantage of something available that others are not?Con_Alma;1371524 wrote:Being part of the State tournament, this is foolish that it's permitted. I don't know the answer which is why I wonder. -

i looked through the wrestling rulebook here http://www.ohsaa.org/sports/rglts/12-13WRreg.pdf but it's mostly about weight regulations and didn't find anything.cruiser_96;1371546 wrote:I've thought about this... so, i looked here http://www.ohsaa.org/sports/rglts/GenSportsReg12-13.pdf and did find this on p. 61:
5.4) A school coach or administrator shall attend a mandatory draw/seed meeting for each sport.
The specific dates for each sport’s draw/seed meeting during the 2012-2013 school year
are listed below. Common tournament draw/seed procedures shall be used as approved
by the Board of Directors and listed within each sport’s tournament regulations (District
Athletic Boards shall determine placement of teams on brackets). District Athletic Boards
will provide schools with seeding information, will notify schools of the exact locations
and times of the meetings and will notify schools in what sports the meetings will not be
conducted.
the above references "teams on brackets" but the following table lists the seeding date for the individual tournament, so I guess the above applies to both.
so next i went looking for wrestling's individual "tournament regulations" as referenced above but i could only find the recently written regulations for the team tournament http://www.ohsaa.org/sports/wr/boys/wrrglts-team.pdf
whatever the case, apparently some approval of the process by OHSAA's board must have taken place at some point -
Con_AlmaEveryone attends a seed meeting for the sectional tournament. That's not the issue. Some sectional tournaments last 10 minutes. There's nothign to discuss. It's simply a matter of checking for accuracy if the athetes have been placed in the proper "order" and thus bracket spot based on critreria predetermined.
Are all teams seeded across the State?
Can all teams select the sectional they would like to participate in?
Are all individual wrestlers seeded with the same criteria across the State?
These are the issues cruiser and i are referring to. -
bump_and_run
Based on the context of the above quoted material and the date listed for the meeting to which these regulations apply (Jan. 27), i believe it is the section that applies to the TEAM draw and TEAM seeding/placement for sectional tournaments, and NOT the seeding criteria meeting for individual wrestlers once those draws have been completed.Con_Alma;1371775 wrote:Everyone attends a seed meeting for the sectional tournament. If that's the case, then there must rules approved by the OHSAA board that govern what goes on that the Jan. 27 seed/draw meeting.
If those rules are approved, then each District should be able to take advantage of them. -
Con_AlmaI understand that much and yet my questions listed above are still of interest to me and not yet answered.

Individual tournament regs: http://www.ohsaa.org/sports/wr/boys/wrrglts-individual.pdf
"Schools are assigned to a specific site by District Athletic Boards and compete at the assigned site."
i guess how the District Athletic Boards do that is up to them.
as far as your questions, i think the answer to the first two is the same...basically "no".
Are all teams seeded across the State? We know this is no because at some sites up north it's based on geography.
Can all teams select the sectional they would like to participate in? We know this is no because at some sites up north it's based on geography.
Are all individual wrestlers seeded with the same criteria across the State? Apparently, each district *may* have its own criteria as long as it is in accordance with Rule 10. Since we're apparently fuzzy on our own district's rules, good luck figuring out what they other guys do: "Seeding and drawing procedures will be established by the respective district athletic boards. Such procedures must be in accordance with Rule 10 of the National Federation Wrestling Rule Book." -

so, since they already know where they are going, they obviously aren't taking advantage of the Jan. 27 team assignment date/meeting. I guess someone could email one of their board members to ask how teams are assigned to a sectional: http://nedab.drupalgardens.com/content/board-members -
Con_AlmaThat is the point of interest. A Statewide tournament doesn't have similar seeding criteria for all entrants.
In the end, It' doesn't result in some shocking match-up come championship match.
