someone told me at an event last weekend that kids had to wrestle at their certification weight by that weekend to wrestle that for state. he said it was a new deadline/rule this year, cited some acronym that i had never heard of and then said something like "ohsaa always aligns with them so they moved the date up this year".
i said that i had always thought you could make scratch all the way up to sectionals, you just didn't get the two pounds. he said something to the effect of "what don't you understand by 'new'? it used to be like that, but this year they have to certify by this weekend."
i looked in the ohsaa rulebook but couldn't find anything that referenced such a date except for this -- but i'm pretty sure this refers to alpha testing appeals:
"Assessments may begin on November 11, 2012. Wrestlers may be measured any time on or following this date to establish the “Alpha” weight. Weight monitoring data shall be submitted online at
www.nwcaonline.com by the assessor within 72 hours of assessment. The deadline for data is January 14, 2013. All wrestlers, including those coming out late, must have their minimum weight established and their name must appear on the school’s Alpha Master Roster prior to competing."
can anyone clear this up for me?
how late can a wrestler wrestle at his minimum weight to be allowed to wrestle that for sectionals?
