Ohio Wrestling...

nykcOkay rant time...
The wrestling results and reporting has been a complete waste of *&*(&#&(#$%*&% a season. Is it just me or does ThisWeek, Dispatch and other outlets seem to care more about Varsity bowling and Fooseball Tournaments than Wrestling? It is great Hockey and Gymnastics are finally getting some love, but I don't care about those sports.
Even Baums page and Jakes Wrestling is outdated. You cannot even pull the sectionals results from 2009 or 10 on Baums. This sport can never grow if no one knows it exists..
[/rant] -
USMCdevil2005I agree completely! When I was in school it was much easier to find results. I can remember the dispatch covered much more ( not too much more but significantly more), and ohiowrestler was a huge site! A ton of links and everything. Now if you go there more than 75% of the links do not work! Jakes has fallen alot and no one posts results like they used to. Where is "dad4sports" when ya need him! I sometimes pray that he come back to Chatter like he used to. lol

hasbeenI looked at two ThisWeek's and they didn't have a single article about wrestling. I said screw it and stopped picking it up.

UnderratedThis has been a very frustrating issue this year. My son is no longer in high school but I like to try to keep up with how all the Central District guys are doing. Results have been very sporadic this year not just in the papers but on the forums as well. Come on everyone lets get the Chatter going by posting complete results from tourneys, duals etc.

bump_and_runfor this week, just typing "wrestling" in the search field and searching seems to work pretty well...

nykcI seen them. I guess a few stories or a 5/10 ratio with the Bowling stories are better than nothing. Reporting is horrible this year. Even JakesWrestling or that Ohio Ranking site. It only accounts for 5-7 matches.

I agree. i don't blame the guy who does the computer ranking thing based on jake's results. i think that's cool and novel and i applaud his efforts. it's great to have one more thing to look at that is fundamentally different (i.e., not jsut some guy's opinoin). however, it needs data to do its job.nykc;1362514 wrote:I seen them. That Pickerington article is the first I've seen. And there hasn't been one in an actual paper in a while.bump_and_run;1362466 wrote:When I click the above link I posted earlier, five stories are returned from just yesterday:

ThisWeek does a poor job of covering wrestling, IMO. -
nykcCorrect bump_and_run...
I was thinking of building a database app myself, but the real problem is getting the data. There is no good reporting, example would be my kid is ranked in a 22 man tie for 38. He has already beaten several of those kids he is tied with. Also, says he has a 3-2 record - realistically he is 18-4 - pretty sure he would be higher on the list based off of that criteria, of course it is only 1 tournament reporting. Not that it matters, true stats are determined on the MAT, but atleast these offer conversation pieces.
I can't believe as popular as wrestling is in Ohio, PA, and MI that the resources are scarce as they are. But thanks to ThisWeekSports atleast I can follow our local Bowling action!!! -
cruiser_96I would like to point out (and admit) that I sent my polls (team and individual) to [email protected]. This does not and will not help our cuase. You see, apparently, spelling an address correctly is important. Whatever, man! That's just the system trying to hod me down, man!!!

lowsingle174When I was home for Break this year, the Canton Repository, The Akron Beacon Journal, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer had so much wrestling coverage.
I've said it before, the wrestling coverage is joke in Central Ohio. There is something about holding results in your hand, actually flipping through the newspaper and seeing your name in there that holds something special. The internet is great for results and what not, but nothing like being able to cut out a box score and seeing your name.
Whatever dude -
said_aouitaShocking. A thread on a wrestling forum complaining about lack of media coverage.
Never seen this before. -

HuskerdocOk, we have vented and kicked the dog...Feel better?
Now is there a way we can solve the issue and get more central Ohio media? Have our parents write in perhaps? Any solutions? I know football teams call in their results right after the game... do wrestling coaches do the same? What else can we do? suggestions? -
nykcdefinitely need more parents/coaches/boosters reporting. The media is a joke

cruiser_96If I could, I would do more. I did a write-up (www.inside-the-circle.webs.com) at the beginning of the season. Haven't been able to touch it since. I'd love to do articles on 100+ match winners, great and exciting duals (like tonight), among other things, but I just do not have the time (or the knack for writing a good story, but that's another issue).
I'm thinking about doing a video of my Darby picks this year. Break them down by weight class. Nothing more than 5 to 7 minutes worth. I would rather wait until the brackets come out though. Maybe get a giant dry-erase board and just go to down, commenting on potential semifinalists and work through some of the consolation bracket. We'll see. -

That would be awesome!!! -
