How big is the Difference between WV and OH. Mays boys get nice wins

tric118Zach Mays Nelsonville-York pinned Zach Nibert Point Pleasant WV the defending WV A/AA State Champ at 170 and Dakota Mays 132 pinned Micah Powell Defending WV state Runner-Up. Neither match was close as Zach was up 6-1 before pinning in 2nd period and Dakota up 4-0 before pinning in 2nd period. Yet then again we have wrestle Parkersburg South AAA state Champs and man are they for real.

ksig489There is a huge gap. We had a guy on our team who was a state qualifier beat a state champ (2xChamp and a runner-up as well) from Parkersburg South, and 2 district qualifiers beat state placers from PS as well. PS is by far the best team in WV too. This was in the mid 2000s...but I was still shocked by the difference.

When I was in HS after my freshman year (qualified for state) I beat a 3 time state champ from WV by 11 in a summer event. I wasn't impressed.

hang_looseNice job Zach & Dakota. You too tric!!!

ptrsnthere are only around 55 schools in the state of WV in A/AA and only about 37 in AAA. State champ there is roughly equiavalent to being state qualifier in Ohio in terms of depth. They do produce some studs (Ken Chertow is from WV) but not near the number from ohio.

BFaustMy son wrestled Cotrell(4xer) at WV Duals last yr, No huge gap there.

1prouddadWay to go Mays boys!! Don't forget the D3 170 runner up got stuck by Zack- if i remember correctly it was also in the 2nd period -so getting pinned by Zack doesn't automatically make you less of a wrestler.
