Olentangy Orange High School Wrestling team, in conjunction with the Stephanie Spielman Foundation and the James Cancer Hospital, is hosting its first annual “Wrestle for the Cure” event on December 6th at home against the Dublin Scioto Irish.
The event was initially born when the staff and athletes began talking about expanding the reach of the program and ways to do so. Volleyball’s “Volley for the Cure” was a launching point and the grapplers followed suit. Many coaches and wrestlers in both programs have loved ones affected by this awful disease. Members of both teams will have an opportunity to dedicate their performance to a survivor or victim on a pre-match board.
The Scioto Irish, led by Coach Aaron McKenzie, are also raising money with t-shirt sales to their own fans and students.
The night will begin at 6 PM with a junior varsity match, followed by the varsity action at 7 PM. The pep band and cheerleaders will be on hand, as well as a silent auction and t-shirt fundraiser. Ares Sportswear, a regular supporter of cancer research, donated shirts for the match.
