The Ohio Capital Conference - Capital Division

  • ontheline
Not the strongest of the OCC conferences but this post will give the central ohio folks something to discuss.

Orange: Returns 4 DQ's, Jonathan Edwards (10) 103, J.J. Jurcisek(11) 112, Josh Toprani (11) 135, Josh Winn (12) HWT. Edwards, Jurcisek and Toprani each won a match at districts. Apparently their preseaon numbers are HUGE. Should be a competitive room.

Big Walnut - State Qualifier Matt Brown and State Aternate Luck Worley will be joined by district qualifiers Zach White and Branden Hale. Team should be solid despite the loss of State Runner Up Ryan Nakama

Mt. Vernon: Five of Mt. Vernon's six district qualifiers graduated. The only returning qualifier is state alternate Dane Cullen. Historically speaking Mt. Vernon will have some good wrestler's ready to step up. Dylan Pauley should be one of those wrestlers. Based on history and the schools solid wrestling tradition, there is no reason to think this team will not be ready to compete for the OCC Capital title come January.

Bradley - Don't know much, however, nice pickup in Andrew Higgins.

New Albany - Returns four district qualifiers.

Hayes - Sophomore Seth McCurdy (103), Senior Joe Sumner (160), Junior Ben Williams (171), Junior Tyler Daugherty (215), Junior Joel Calfe (145)

Watkins Memorial: Last year the team struggled to fill seven of the fourteen weight classes. Boehm and Kunzi are two top notich performers but giving up 35 points a dual is hard to overcome.

Franklin Heights - When I started this a couple months ago entered No team 2009/10....HOWEVER, thanks to the voters in the SWCD this program has been granted a new life. I still don't seem them moving up the pecking order, but at least they have a program.

Heights will have some consistency in coaching this year for the first time in years, but I believe they may have lost a couple of quality kids to the levy.

Although this may not be the strongest in the OCC, I think it will be competitive.

For obvious reasons, I won't touch on my team, Orange, other than to say many guys have stepped up and all the DQs are looking great.

Mt. Vernon is always very dangerous and, in my experience, very big for their weights. I expect Coach Brown to reload his line-up.

I would call Big Walnut the early favorite based on returners.

Hayes had a good off season and a few studs. McCurdy wrestles everywhere.

New Albany is much like Orange, with good numbers.

Watkins has two of the best lightweights around. It MIGHT have something to do with Coach Jayne.

Bradley got a bunch of Darby kids, but watch the freshmen upper weight Riggs.

Franklin Heights is revived and Coach Ramirez is jacked!

Mount Vernon is an anomoly. (Did I use that word correctly, knightflyer?)

They graduate 4 to 7 seniors every year and usuall end up in the top 10 of the District tournament. Most teams graduate 5 seniors and have a rebuilding year or four.

Big Walnut has been getting it done for a couple of years now. Very good wrestlers with a handful in each grade level.

I know I'll be ecited come January, when the duals begin.
