95 PounderAre you guys going on July 25th and during august ?
-
Ozzie8383The open mats have been going well. We have had between 25-35 kids per session and the wrestling has been fun to watch. We will be having open mats on July 25th and the month of August will be hosted at Hilliard Davidson High School.

look_into_the_half88I'm sorry, but i have a real problem with how Darby has been running their open mats! For starters, correct me if i am wrong, but i thought it was suppose to last from 6-7:30? Well this typically lasts barley an hour. I'm sorry, but it takes me 50 minutes. to get there, i spent most of my time traveling. The guys i brought asked me, "why is it ending so early, we have barley been here?" The other two places that held it lasted closer to 8. My other issue is that the mats were only mopped once! Hello! Fungus! I know a bunch of people who got impetigo from there open mat. I really hope that Davidsons open mat is run better than Darby. And yes i do know that Darbys coach took time out of his schedule to host this but why not host it well?

upset_125Hey look_into_the_half88 i get where you are coming from. I was really disappointed with how Darby ran there open mats. Maybe you and your guys will have better luck at Davidson next month.
-
DirtyscrambleBradley ran a good one, nice sanitized mats, and a good hour and a half work out i vote to just #keepitatbradley

I will go ahead and address these comments; but first of all, I am extremely open to ideas and criticisms, so I appreciate where you are coming from, but I do prefer that these conversations are held face to face. Either way, let me see if I can help mend this fence a little.look_into_the_half88;1234117 wrote:I'm sorry, but i have a real problem with how Darby has been running their open mats! I guess I will begin with the cleaning of the mats. That room has been bleached twice this month and mopped the day of each open mat session. Maybe the mats were not wet when you first arrived, but I assure you that they were mopped either earlier in the day or before the session began. Also, I am not sure who you know that received impetigo from that room, but if that is true I would appreciate that knowledge rather swiftly so we could make adjustments to the room to ensure that we stop the problem... We take that very seriously. I do know of a few kids that received impetigo, but it was from a team camp that was not held at Darby (the kids have not been on our mats at all this Month). So, hopefully we cleared that up, because we really do take skin infection seriously.
Secondly, and once again, I appreciate your input about the open mat; I would like to attempt to explain our thinking and observation about how they are run. The first two open mats, we shut down at the 75th minute due to a large number of kids were done for the day. We noticed that it was typically the 65th minute that the laces were getting untied. So, we tried to adapt to the personnel and give them what they wanted so they would continue to come back. We would rather have these kids keep coming back and get 260 minutes of mat time (4 sessions) as opposed to 90 minutes of mat time (1 session). That is the observation and discussions that we had (believe it or not, there is some thought that goes into this), but that does not mean that we were right. Actually if it were completely up to me, the last two weeks of July and the whole month of August would only be an hour long and it would be all drilling, no live at all; but then we would have an empty room because even I know that is pretty boring.
Lastly, it is said at the 65th minute the last two weeks of these open mats, "that is all that we have for you, but the room is still open" and there have been no takers to continue wrestling. We took that as a hint that they were ready to be finished. Once, again we could be wrong, but that was our thought process in order to keep more kids involved. I am sure Coach Disabato will run them differently and maybe that will be more of what you are looking for. Please let me know if I can help out in any other way. Have a good day. -
CthelitesWow! Cant believe the bashing.
I know for a fact the the mats are ALWAYS cleaned at darby.
The skin funk is a never ending battle for wrestlers.
It is usually spread thru the wrestler or his clothing when the mats are sanitized.
I know whenever any of my kids or any Darby kids gets the funk, they cannot step on the mat, PERIOD!
As far as the time, Im sure he never "kicked anyone out early". You want to stay just do it or just ask.
We would run a decently structured club and when he felt it was time for his wrestlers to be done he would tell me to shut them down.
"Thats all I got for you" is the end of the structured portion.
We left our room open after the fact in case anyone wanted more time.
Typically no one ever used it.
Im sure it was the same with the open mats. -

I don't think that look into the halfs post ment to come off as a bashing, rather a concern. In regards to the mats, I will say that I arrived every week about 30 minutes early and me and ozzie would have some good chats while he mopped every inch of the mat. That being said, two wrestlers did get some skin funk after the first week, but that can be just as much their own faults for not showering quick enough etc. While I did hear coach moody say that thats all he had, but guys could stay if they wanted to, I think most guys would have stayed for more structure, when I was a hs kid (which wasnt long ago) I know I needed it. All and all, coach moody ran a very solid open mat that had good competition and good numbers, and they could have been run a number of ways but they are done now.Cthelites;1236680 wrote:Wow! CitybuckSo is everything good for open mats this Wednesday (Aug 1st) @ Hilliard Davidson at 6:00 ?
-
Ozzie8383Open mats are good to go on Wednesday at 6pm, at Davidson.
Westie, I agree that some kids would have done more if the structure went longer; I guess we were just weighing our options about not only getting more out of each session, but also bringing them back for more sessions, hence giving some more freedom at the end of open mats. Were we right? Probably not. But I appreciate your input; you are able to relate well with the kids and take time to work with anyone. I have a lot of respect for your opinion, especially concerning the pulse of open mats.
Good luck to everyone as we continue the CDWCA Open Mats at Davidson. Keep improving. -
CitybuckSounds good Ozzie, thanks !
-
Ozzie8383They are Wednesday. Sorry for the error... I fixed it.
-
cruiser_96I just received this email...
"Hilliard Davidson will NOT be able to host open mats in August. *This includes tonight. *I apologize for the late notice. *Hopefully you all can contact any wrestlers who planned on attending" - Dom
That's all I got. -
Westie101blah.
-
upset_125well since davidson is no having open mats, is there anyother place holding open mats on wednesday? I was looking forward to going to davidson, but i guess plans change. Let me know if anyother place is holding it
-
knightflyer150With Davidson cancelling Wednesday sessions, this is just a reminder that Orange hosts open mats every Thursday from 6:30-8. Enter through athletic wing, we are on the mezzanine. We will host until school begins.

CitybuckThat stinks...I need another day for my kid other than Thursday at Orange...
