West Jeff's Coach Branham resigns

  • Cradleman
Mike has submitted his resignation from the position of head wrestling coach at West Jeff, effective immediately. His job in the building was one of many cut by the school district at the end of last school year. He has recently accepted a job outside the school district with a time schedule that will not coincide with coaching. Nick Christopher who previously was the head coach has again accepted the position.

If this is true that is a darn shame. A great coach who ran a top notch program. I remember my early days hating to face up with WJ kids because I knew it would be a dog fight even if the kid was a 500 wrestler. Best of luck Coach Branham. Yinger.

Bittersweet, eh? On the one hand he finds a modicum of stability in a job, although with another school. On the other hand, the Roughriders lose a face of the program.

    Certainly wish him the best.

I seem to remember him being a girls soccer coach(?) and doing something special for one of the kids. My memory is not helping right now though... Anyone recall this story???

Top notch guy, phenomenal coach. This is really sad for West Jeff athletics & community. It’s going to be extremely difficult for the wrestling program to remain top tier. This guy gave everything he had to the kids & program, one of the most selfless people I’ve met. Believes in his kids & does everything imaginable for them to reach their potential, not just on the mat, but in life as he instills character, work ethic, & value into their inner core.

Always admired the way this guy would wear his heart on his sleeve, never backed down, no politics, just business.

Best wishes to Coach Branham & his family
