Chris Phillips

  • Con_Alma
There's some buzz around that he has been released by NC State and has enrolled at tOSU.

    Can anyone confirm this?
  • maddog140
From what I understand through trusted sources yes he is on the team.
  • Con_Alma
On the team? That's great news.

I had heard he was not interested in wrestling any longer and that's why he left NC State.

Maybe some old friends and faces along with Mr. Ryan helped change his mind.

I'd rather a level-headed, productive member of society (if ANY of the old rumor-mill stuff was .01% true). But if I can get that AND a dynamic wrestler, I'll take it!
  • Con_Alma
Amen cruiser. Isn't that what it's supposed to be about anyway?
  • maddog140
Just heard sammy white might be coming as well to OSU. If its true along with triggas coming back and the #1 kid at 120 coming in we will be loaded from top to bottom for years to come.
  • Con_Alma
From top to bottom?? Who will be at heavyweight? Is there a true heavyweight I don't know about?
  • maddog140
Our heavy now is doing more than holding his own and the wadsworth kid coming in is no joke.
  • Con_Alma
No doubt he is "holding his own". I didn't question that at all. I also don't think he's AA material at that weight. Hope I'm wrong. Being loaded top to bottom was quite a statement. Hope it's true. Certainly a lot of promise. Need to develop those upper weights into the potential those little guys have, however.

    J.D.??? You out there???

    Tavenello

Tavanello is a monster. The kid will be all American many times over.

Maybe worth a shot with a short leash being with all his boys! Hope it works out for both.

Probably a win-win situation for tOSU. Most likely CP wasn't offered any sort of athletic scholarships. If CP ends up scoring points for the team, maybe in a year or so they'd throw him some money.
  • maddog140
From what I understand the kid is just trying to get his life straightened out. If being at OSU surrounded by his former teammates and a good group of boys works for him then I wish him the very best! Sometimes we have to hit rock bottom to find the strength to pick ourselves up and find the right path! Good Luck Chris and GO BUCKS!

165 maybe???? I know he hasn't seen that for a while but I think he has more of a 165 frame.

I don't know yet if he will be an AA "many times over" but he is going to be exciting to watch......AND he's an excellent student. Great fit for a Tom Ryan team.
  • Con_Alma
Mr. Phillips has been grey shirted but is definiately in the room and on the team.

Have you seen Tavenello wrestle this year? He's undersized and seems tentitive to attack the bigger heavies. I think he's in the Brian Koz mode of a great high school wrestler that is a tweener in college...too big for 197 and too small to be a All American caliber heavyweight. I hope I'm wrong on this though. He seems like a good kid and I'm a fan of the Wadsworth program.

I think you're underestimating how tough it is to become an AA once, let alone multiple times. Guys like CP Schlatter and Colt Sponseller only AAed once, and this a long list of high school greats that never AAed.

As far as the Chirs Phillips thing goes, I wish him luck and hope he succeeds.

    This.

This clarifies a lot. Now the rumors don't have to be influencing us nincompoops! Thanks.

Does this give him 5 more years...or does this year count?
