Marion Harding Holiday Classic

The name is St. Edward....but it is accepted to be referred to as St. Eds....(see above).

Other examples of this would be: The Schott (is that REALLY the name?) The SHOE......(again...really?)...Oh Oh...The Bucks...or is it Buckeyes????

Hey, It says on "THEIR" homepage....Im simply correcting your wrong assumption. The school itself even refers to themselves as St Ed's!!! NOT St. Ed.

Carry on with Marion Harding Holiday Classic.

I have never comented on what is accepted. Is that what we are discussing?

My comments were very clear in that the name is St. Edward which it is. This is not an assumption. I am not speaking of nicknames or common public vernacular.

If you add an (S) you are either making it plural, which it is not, or possesive. It's not his school. It was named after him.

People do this incorrectlyall the time and cruiser and I joke about it with each other which is why I commented. It was a way of engaging with cruiser.

The "We are St. Ed's" tag line is short for "We are St. Edward's students. The possesive is needed. We are the school's students. It's not the name. It's english.

But the school doesn't own the students...you can see this referenced in many public/private debates. ;)

Own? No, they don't. The interesting structure of our language is such that it is representative of "the students of the school" or "the school's students".

Nice tie in there though. Very Nice!

    I'll try. You too.

    Enjoy the wrestling.

I don't expect St. Ed(s) to be as competitive this year. I would expect a fair amount of their quality back-ups to make the trip to The Clash.
  • dwccrew
St. Edwards must be sending there B team I'm guessing?
  • Con_Alma
There are typically four teams at St. Edward.

Gold, Green, White and a freshman team.

Don't know who's going to this tourny.
  • dwccrew
I remember when I wrestled in the Marion tournament St. Edwards always sent there 'b' team. Not sure if that is there Gold, Green or White teams, but St. Edwards always did real good at this tournament even though it was not there 'a' team.
  • Con_Alma
Generally Green is noted as the "B" team.

Don't confuse the team designations with the singlet colors they may or may not show up in. ;)

Oh, I always thought it was the arena of St. John which would make St. John's correct? I also thought it was the school of St. Ed which would make St. Ed's correct. Those dudes do not own the arena and school?
  • Con_Alma
Why would you think such a thing? That's not what is recorded.

    St. John Arena

    St. Edward High School

St. Edward High School don't attend this event, it stays in Lakewood....The wrestsling team, coaches and fans et al , St. Ed's walk through the doors.

St. Ed's usually does well at States too....err State!

States..or State...is held at The Schott....er The Schottenstein center.

It could be considered state's' since, technically, there is 3 seperate state tournaments going on at one time at one venue. D1-3 are three seperate state tournaments. Hence, states is an accurate description of the tournaments.
  • dwccrew
Unless one interprets it states as multiple states and not multiple tournaments. Now I have confused myself.
