New Club/Open Mat opportunity for Central Ohio on Mondays @ Hilliard Darby

Not a good time too be overworking. Live wrestling with people you will be seeing at Districts in a few days seems unwise.

I'm not sure what last night was like, but when I was able to make it, there was a very nice mix of D-II and D-I and enough kids around your weight but not exactly in your weight to get a good workout in without facing your first round match.

I think there is something to be said for overtraining, but the danger is "taking the week off" in order to be rested. The balance is tough to find. The goal is to be rested but not rusted.

If you are getting ready for Districts. Which means you are working 4-5 times this week at your school or going to another for the numbers with a different Divisional Team in their room. Then you add another room. Just seems a bit much now. I like what they are doing there but if you really feel you need to get additional mat/go time go to Graham on Sundays. That way you dont do two workouts in one day and the competition the is over the top.

I guess its not for everyone Sid.
Maybe thats why Cent Oh has been lacking at the State level?
We get alot of D3 kids that come so there really isnt much if any overlap.
I know tons of kids go to prodigy, burnetts and jordans and others places up north getting extra sessions. I dont think they are not going because they might see a certain kid at Districts. The best time of the week to "over work" would be on a Monday so i dont see that hurting anyone. We only go about 45 min live with a grinder. The rest is drilling stretching warm up and cool down. Most of these kids need a good extra workout this time of yr to keep their weight in check.

We had good numbers (close to 30) last night for this time of yr.
I was surprised that we didnt get any Jr High kids last night(one actually and he was a HAMMER and a district champ), but maybe it was because OAC Districts were yesterday.

We will be back at it again next week.
I expect some big Jr High #s next week(we had been getting about a dozen recently).

Good luck to all the Ohio Capitals at District this week!
I hope the time you have put in here pays off for you!

Read my second post Mr. D. There is a better alternative. Your biased and I understand that. And there is never a good day to "overwork". Last week at Darby and a few weeks from now it will be a great place for Central Ohio High School kids. Its fine now for the Jr Kids. By the way Central Ohio wrestlers have gotten dramatically better at State. There are several reasons why some areas have a lockdown at State. School size, coaching, feeder programs and etc. I think Central Ohio open mats have helped. Ready, Groveport and etc. I support what you are doing and am thankful.

Ha! You said Mr. D!!! My mind raced back to that little red headed kid on Different Strokes!!! Whew... That was a good one, Sid.

Best of luck for all the District competitors this week.

    ¿¿¿Any word on alternates???

Sid, no one ever said that Grahams open mats arent the best. They are! My kids go sometimes.
I am not being biased really. If there were already places to train extra with out spending 1k(thats what I spent on one kid last yr) we wouldnt be hosting. I really pushed getting the room on Mondays. I want everyone to take advantage of this.
Do you really think that Mirons is shutting it down this week and next week because of Districts?
There are several of the Mville wrestlers that come to our club. Some of that group didnt come last night because they were training at their house with 2 other kids from other schools that were coming whom will prolly face each other at the district final. They are elite kids and it doesnt seem to bother them to wrestle each other. I think they know to be able to maximize their success next week they need to challenge each other now. I love that! I wish they came over to Darby so my son could wrestle with them!
And I dont think and extra hr session on Monday is "overwork". Thats your term not mine.lol If it was Wed or Thurs Id agree, but most of these kids been doing this all yr so I think not doing it could be a reversed negative if that makes any sense.

I dk if Central Oh is getting better? Not based on Bucksmans results they arent(we are still a punching bag to him!).
I do think we are poised to surprise people this yr! I see things getting better in the future for us. I hope it starts next week!
I want to see lots of Cent Oh kids on that podium next week!

And thanks for the support Sid! We will just agree to disagree on this I guess lol!

Did you know that kids from Northeast Ohio workout more than once every day? It is in their culture; it is just what they do, it is normal. I fully understand overtraining, but the teenage body can do remarkable things when pushed the correct way. Overtraining is not so much a physical thing as it is a mental thing; and even then, it can be used as an advantage.

Last year at States I heard Coach Urbas say that the week of States his kids cry and mentally break all of time. That does not seem like a team that is scared of overtraining. In fact, they seem extremely confident because of the harsh conditions that they have conquered on a daily basis.

Do not get me wrong, there is more than one way to win a title. Good luck to everyone, not just the Ohio Capitals Wrestling Club Members.

Kind of off the topic a bit, but I like that this week, all the kids on the podium will be Central Ohio kids. Nothing against the Dayton area teams, but if we are going to make improvements, we need an honest assessment of where we are.

I still think there could be some changes made for the overall state of Ohio wrestling, but I, like just about everyone in C-bus, want Central Ohio to do well. I don't want to have to rely on Dayton area kids to boost our stats.

As for being a punching bag... Arrgh... As adults and coaches, all we can do is be positive, give opportunities (like this club) and encourage our kids to greater things.

CTL: Otie's for one on me. It could be in the cards this year. Stay tuned.

Point is, at this point in the season....please follow...those few workouts wont help you much now. You risk wearing yourself out and risk injury. Now certain teams who may only have or have had 1 maybe 2 DQ in the last 5 years you maybe ok. Good luck to all and please dont let your nerves get the best of you. Some of us have been here before ;)
