I will be coaching a K-6 program this season...

  • justincredible
The current head coach at the school my wife works for is unable to give his full attention to the program this season due to some personal issues and is looking for someone to groom as his replacement. I've been wanting to get back into the sport for a while now so my wife passed along my info to him and we will hopefully be chatting about it in the next few days. I'll keep you updated on how it goes.

Stay away from sharp instruments, dangeruous power tools, heavy machinery, driving near cliffs, and large amounts of alcohol. On second thought you may need that last one...just not in combo with the others;)

'Coach Justin'...just doesn't sound right. Use 'Coach Incredible'. That way they could say my Coach is Incredible.

Good luck Justin, I think you might have a blast with those kids... Remember to keep your patience and make it an enjoyable and learning expierence for them.

Also, pass along some of the kid stories that put a grin on your face when you're having a bad day:thumbup:.

Remember that the only important thing you need to tell them as a coach (or parent) is "SQUEEZE!" and "HIT IT!" (referring of course to their "signature" move of a head and arm)

Just met with the former K-6 coach and the current Varsity coach. I am officially the K-6 coach. Lord help me. :)

Good Luck Justin. Hope you have fun with it. If you do the kids will sense that and their experience will be even better. The better experience they have the more likely they will stick with it. That is critical because in my opinion it is the most physically and mentally demanding sport offered at the school age level.

I agree with Password. Priorities in my mind at this age in order are:

    1. Safety
    2. FUN!!!
    3. Skill development and technique knowledge.

If the opportunity presented itself would you like to coach full time in a paying position?

Eventually, yes. That is the main reason I took this opportunity when it came up. Their program is relatively small so I'll have a lot of opportunities to help out on the middle school and varsity levels as well. After meeting with the two coaches last night I am really looking forward to this.
