Team Strength will be participating today in the high school duals at 8 am and then in the individual competition at 4 pm. I think its Murdock (Coffman), Higgins (Bradley), Maynard (Heights), Marsico (Kiski - I heard he was home, I am assuming he is wrestling.. maybe not), Byers (Dayton Trotwood), Strope (Lancaster). I'll fill in the rest of the roster later. TIme to go.

Team Strength went 3-0. Now they all wrestle in the individual tournament.

And there were a whole lot of interesting kids from all over central Ohio (and one from Dayton and one from Solon). Lets see... I know I cannot remember them all and the boys are not home yet to tell me.... They are not done with many of the individual tournament weight classes and awards.... Westerville... had at least Santino DiSabato and Zach Brown, Olentangy had Al Caserta and heavy weight Ryan Young who stepped up, as well as Trevor Fiorucci, Dublin had Murdock and Mullucey and a very tall Wes Brown from Scioto at 215, and another (from Jerome maybe???) at 189. Hilliard had Angelo DiSabato and Andrew Higgins, DeSales contributed Payton Gutierrez, Pickerington had at least Howes (ask him how it felt to be the heavyweight!) and Marsico, and Jason Maynard from Licking Heights, as well as Spearman from Lancaster. There were a bunch of great kids there today from "Columbus." We were also able to include Tevin Byers from Trotwood and Brandon Thompson from Solon. And Bryant Myers from Kiski Prep. And the gear was sweet!

And about the coaches... last year my biggest complaint was the lack of a coaching presence from this area. This year, many coaches were in attendance, either working mats, or just watching and encouraging. It was great to see this. The boys were still "kid" coached, but it was nice to see their coaches for the most part just enjoying the wrestling.

Just got back. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG day. Maybe longer than that, but I don't feel like holding down the 'O' anymore.

Zach Brown placed 5th in the 171 Elite class, as well as competed for the Division winning dual team, Team Ohio Strength. Great memory, hizzmuther. Just to complete the roster, the 189 from Dublin Scioto was Gabe Shirkey. Team Strength was a marvelous collaboration (organized by Ryan Murdock) of a wide variety of Central District/OCC state placers, qualifiers and a state alt who, without doubt, had the sweetest gear in the dual tourney (kudos to Ryan for his designs again). Despite the wonderful support of many of the area coaches, the kids took pride in being self-coached and they tore it up this year. Watching Brandon Howes wrestle heavyweight is something I won't soon forget and I can't believe it's not on Facebook by now (or at least I didn't see it). Great job!

I liked this tourney. Our first time there. Great competition.
A few problems. Said Cadet would start at 4 so we get there at 2.
    First match 8:30 PM!!!!
They were tearing down 6 mats and we hadnt even step foot on a mat. What the???
Then he only got in 2 matches in 2hr 45 min then he got his 3rd thru 6th matches in 45 min.
Kid was beat! lol. He was winning his wrestle back matches and Id look at the monitor and he was already on deck. WOW! He learned a great lesson: dont lose early! lol.

Brackets were not updated at all for my sons weight. There was one update and then the thing disappeared. Tough to keep track of a 32 plus man bracket without any updates not to mention I paid $3 just for one weight class piece of paper.

Reffing was pretty solid. We didnt see anything out of the ordinary on our mats.

I understand these things get off schedule but anyone know why we were 4 and a half HOURS off? Was it the duals that caused it?

All in all it was a great night of wrestling for my son getting 6 matches. Where else can you get that kind of competition for $60 in our back yard!

I know one thing that causes delays... Parents and/or kids the just wander off. And I do not get it.

The age group and weight class is only on one mat. IT'S NOT MOVING!!!!!!! Why do you (you in the generic sense, of course)!?!?!?!?!?! A good number of matches, and in this case, a good number = 75 to 80% were delayed thanks to people like this. One kid was up in the stands laying down! AND HE WAS ONLY ON HIS SECOND MATCH of the second session. At that point I think we may have been an hour behind, but he had already wrestled a match.

And this was constant. Oh well. Thanks, TofC.

*the above statement are not as much a reflection on the TofC as it is parents and/or kids that wander.

    ...and wander they do...

I saw a lot of that too Cruiser. Mats were constantly open looking to find the wrestler. I like the Medina bout boards and wish they had something like that, but you can tell when you are going to be up by looking at the bout #s on the scorebaod of the matches. Unless of course a new session was beginning. Communication needs to be better.
We were in the area of our mats for 4.30 hrs to make sure we wouldnt miss anything. We didnt!

Thanks, cthelites. I was really proud of his efforts.

We sat down at his mat number at approximately 4 p.m. He didn't wrestle for the first time until after 8 p.m. (he had a 1st round bye). He finished his last bout around 11:15 p.m. Of course there were times we got up and stretched or answered nature's call, but yeah, we never left the immediate area for longer than a few minutes. It was incredible the number of times they came around with the dry erase board trying to find people. And, no doubt, those people were the ones complaining the loudest about how late it was and how long it was taking. We've been to this one enough to know that timetables are a great thing, but not likely to happen at a tournament like this. It is what it is but you can't beat it for high level competition with a 15 minute drive home! :)
