Anyone want to take a shot at D2?

    Shoot:

When you can take the time out of that super duper busy schedule of yours to do the ranks, I am sure everyone would love to see them.

I am sure it will be just another comment about how Hammons ranks them. You always make me smile though!!!

Wait, I thought Olentangy was going back up to division one? How would Hammons rank his kids in division 2? I thought that annoying Groveport assistant was in change of the division 1 rankings. Hammons should relenquish the division 2 rankings job to whoever complained the most.

I think he is the groveport head coach...could be wrong though. but boy he is annoying...

Maybe I'll have time for that if I can get that job as a advisor at a third rate community college, or maybe the job as a special ed teacher so I can ignore the kids and surf the web all day. (all while the school asks the public for more money to pay teachers.)
Of course, unlike you, I will understand that things published in the Dispatch are open for discussion.

Tell me, were you smiling May 13, 2010, The day the man you continue to defend was given written reprimand by his employer for mutiple violations?
Will you be smiling May 3rd?

How will Desales and Olentangy Orange be next year ?
  • bpetereit
you shouldn't have to worry about the school district now that you have "moved" into the good ole caledonia district....i don't have to defend him, he is a grown man. his results speak for themselves!!!! do people make mistakes, absolutely. are they punished for there mistakes, absolutely. you of all people should know that, "Assistant"

and it's not very hard to use google...were you smiling October 2, 2009 when you failed to get a conviction of murder???? I doubt it, but such is life.

the fact that you get on here and spout off personal information about people, is what makes me smile. i guess we all can't be a miserable, hateful, non-energetic person.

looking forward to seeing you, thanks

At a quick glance this is what I see… I tried to balance dual meet strength with big tournament strength which is not easy to do. I am sure that I will change my mind a billion times before November comes around, but this is my first gut instinct. I hope you enjoy.

1.) Lewis Center Olentangy (if Div. 1) – This team is speckled with State experience all over the place and had some great back-ups. I look for them to be the top dog for at least one more year.

2.) Marysville – This team will not skip a beat from its “down year” last season. They will be good at the beginning of the year and will only improve exponentially by time February hits the calendar, which is scary. This is the only team that can give Olentangy a run for its money next year imo.

3.) Dublin Coffman – This was a tough decision between them and Lancaster, but I am giving the rocks the nod based on their strength of schedule; not only can their tournament schedule, but their conference duals can push them. I think Coffman may have the best leader in Central Ohio in Ryan Murdock (from an outsiders perspective) and he is the x-factor to their successful season.

4.) Lancaster – Lancaster will once again have a great dual meet team, which includes its star power (Spearman and Strope). I think that their ability to score big points in the middle-upperweights will be key for them come February.

5.) Hilliard Bradley (if Div. 1) – This is my first “surprise pick”! I think they could have one of the best middle-upperweight rooms in CO and that will be huge in duals and tournaments. They are still a relatively young team, but the Seniors that they have a tough.

6.) Hilliard Davidson – This may be one of Davidson’s “down years”, but they, like Coffman, have an x-factor in Chase Delande. I believe his ability to get into “the zone” and rise to the occasion will rub off on his talented counterparts and they will once again be elite.

7.) Teays Valley – Teays looks to have more tournament strength than usual TV teams, but I do not buy it. Coach Nace always is able to get balance in his line-up and I think they will be tough to beat. Look for “very little Nace” to grow into an actual H.S. weight class and be a big scorer along with his brother, Luft and Leidecker.

8.) Westerville North – This is a team on the rise that turned some heads last season. They lost some key components, but, much like Teays Valley, they will have Disabato back at 103 as a full size kid and that will be key for them to score big points. I think they will be relatively young, but I did not look too deep into it yet.

9.) Worthington Kilbourne – This is my second “surprise pick”! I know they do not currently have a coach and I know that they faded in February last year, but there is some very quality talent in that room. I hope they can hold it all together, because if they do they might have a magical season in relative terms.

10.) Central Crossing – This is a team on the rise that has an x-factor kid of their own (Vince Pickett). They will have a nice mixture of young kids and old veterans and I think they will take another step toward getting back to their glory teams.

11.) Olentangy Liberty – Liberty has a couple huge point scorers and their x-factor is a coaching staff that has been there and done that. I look for them to waste very little time licking their wounds from the Senior class that they lost and be in the hunt of elite status again very soon, maybe even this year.

12.) Gahanna – Assuming that they exterminated all of the injury bugs away from their room they will be very talented and I could see them much higher than my irrelevant ranking. They have a dedicated staff and a large pool of kids to choose from, so they could be very tough.

13.) Mt. Vernon – I might regret ranking this team so low… Coach Brown is one of the best in the biz and has a hand full of big scorers. I could see this team being much like their season in 2009-2010 when they started slow and improved immensely before Post-Season time.

14.) Pickerington North – This team has a couple of solid wrestlers and one BIG point scorer! This program seems to pride itself on having a solid team from top to bottom, and I do not see that changing. Plus, they have some incoming Freshman that could rattle a couple cages.

15.) Reynoldsburg – This team seemed very athletic last season, and with another year of training and drilling they could be very tough to beat. They have some good lightweights and that will fuel them to surprise some folks.

    Teams on the Rise:
Dublin Scioto, Dublin Jerome, Franklin Heights and Pickerington Central – These teams are headed in the right direction and could have something to say this winter about the word “tough”.

Teams a couple of years away:
Groveport and Delaware – these two teams will be young, but if Middle School results hold they could be very good in the near future.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed writing it. I know I missed teams and am nowhere close to being accurate, but this should give us something to talk about during the hot/boring summer months. Cannot wait till November!

    City Buck-

Desales has Gutteriez as 2x SQ and of course Lee Wilson, and more than a couple of very good kids. Plus, word is, a great freshmen class.

Orange returns ten starters from an under-performing season. DQs back are Dawson (145/152), Kamba (189) and Selbe (215). Should have 11 juniors and seniors in the line-up, two very good freshmen lightweights and another 103 that moved into Central Ohio. Getting everyone in up top is key, including the excellent Lewis, who split time with Kamba last year. District Alt Kang should man HWT, but we have solid back-ups at most weights and lots of upperclassmen. The key is staying healthy, getting way tougher and a good off season.

Helluva job, Ozzie. Vince Coleman and Willie McGhee would be happy. I like them all except with the Port. I do the rankings so we'll be #1. Thank you! :D :D :D
  • huntergreen26
Desales could be very good. Ferguson, Allen, Guttierrez, WIlson all have SQ/SP potential. They have a DQ back in Martin at 135 and their 215 (can't remember name). Moore at 189, DQ last year, was tough. Not sure if he returns. I think they are prime for a good season. Maybe not a great dual meet team, but can do damage at any tournament they are entered in.

This is off topic and not to go on anyone's parade, but nobody has mentioned the elephant in the room. It seems all the Tangy schools are being bantered about for next year on this thread. Wonder where the kids may end up if the levy doesn't pass and the spineless administrators cut all sports? Will some be stuck due to transfer rules? With the tradition all three schools have in all sports, boy's and girl's, it could have a impact for years down the road. Even though I have a dislike for everything to do with the district, I hope this does not come to fruition.

heard that guitterrez is leaving and going to pickerington north next year..

No love for Tangy? Oh well, its good to have rivals. Given that we the levy election is in May, if the levy fails there are a couple of options. First the district could go to pay-to-play. The board didn't even consider this when they were putting the levy forward. If they don't go that route (at which point there will be a recall election of the school board!), then students can transfer to other districts under the OHSAA exception 11 clause below:

During the period of time, and only if, a school district ceases to sponsor its entire interscholastic athletic programs, a student from that district may transfer to any other school district/system and have her/his eligibility restored upon application to the Commissioner’s Office. Furthermore, if the district from which such student transferred resumes with its sponsorship of interscholastic programs and the student wishes to transfer back to the district from which she/he transferred, he/she may do so and have her/his eligibility restored in accordance with Exception 6 of Bylaw 4-7-2, and notwithstanding Bylaw 4-7-3, provided the transfer back occurs prior to the start of the next school year following the school year in which resumption of sponsorship of interscholastic programs occurred.

Of course students could also go the private route. If they really wanted to mess up some student athletes they could decide to keep some of the premier sports (football and basketball) and keep the atheletes in the other sports from transferring (like wrestling). At the point the only option students would have is the privates.

Regardless of the path, if students transfer it would break up some really good teams.

    Didnt know about that levy.
the Hilliards are threatening the elimination of MS sports.

    What happened to Darby Ozzie?
Have they fallen so far behind because of their coach to not get mentioned????

Nice one, Cthelites!!! Har har har...

Pickerington Central not in the top 15??? They return 4 district qualifiers, and 3 district alternates. Beat Reynoldsburg and Pick. North in duals last year. They will definitely suprise people next year.
  • double arm bars
Yep, no surprise here Allen will have troops ready and much better.
  • Ozzie8383
Darby? Do they even have a Varsity Team anymore? I heard that they will just be running just two JV Squads in hopes of building toward the future... I guess I did not clarify, this is a list of possible top 15 teams in Varsity Wrestling. haha

As far as Pick Central is concerned, I am sure that they can be much higher than I had them, I have barely scratched the surface of last years results; I just glanced at District stuff, I haven't even looked at Sectional stuff yet. I agree about Allen being able to make those boys ready, he has quite the resume that proves so.

RussianBear;743288 wrote:It would be a tough lineup for a freshman to crack. The lineup is filled with experienced and successful upper classmen. Many won or placed in large invitationals and tournaments in the northeast and southwest part of the state. Class rank is for next year. It is way early, but here is a guess at the potential lineup -

    103 - Andrew Torti (Jr. 5th District)
112 - Open (best chance for a freshman to crack the lineup)
119 - Travis Massey (Jr. - wrestled 112 part of this season, winning record)
125 - Trevor Firouci (Sr. 5th at state)
130 - Ryan Lucas (Sr. District Qualifer)
135 - Cody Pollit (Soph- winning season, but didn't compete post season when Caserta moved down)
    140 - Fosco (Sr. 6th at state)
145 - Kyle Massey (Sr. injured at beginning of season)
150 - Ryan Dean (Sr. - District Qualifier at 172!)
160- Ryan Brady (Sr. - wrestled 145/150 most of the year, 5th at sectional)
172 - Open (Several options here, but lack of experience is a concern, this was Joey Gadd's weight)
189 - Brandon Shepard (Jr. 2-year varsity letterwinner, 1st at Freshman state at Dublin last year)
215 - Alex Stinemetz (Sr. State Qaulifier)
Hwt - Brian Young (Sr. State Qaulifier, just finished 4th at Tournament of Champions)
This line up is tough, does anybody know how Marysville matches up

Very Good job Ozzie. I agree, the jacket just finds a way to get it done and Pick Central will surprise people next year.

Also, I don't know not about Coffman's schedule but as info, Lancaster is suppose to be at The Wazie, The Marysville Duals, Medina, Hillard Bradley's Porter Memorial and The Austintown Fitch Tournament (IMO, highly underrated) plus the OCC Ohio dual schedule.
