It seems as if the voters dont even get it right because they take district results and vote before the state (the only thing that matters.) Therefore, the Central District can't even put their best foot forward (which is better than most give them credit for) on that Saturday sports page every year.
We do the vote before State strictly because the Discrap says we have to or they wont run it. -
ksig489So...this OCC/MSL post season dual challenge.
How about 2 teams from each conference. Give the kids +5 or so from the regular season weights. Wrestle both duals and take a cumulative team score. Use the gate money for something special...charity, scholarship, etc. Concession stand goes to host school (probably the Port, they host everything).
Have the event a couple weeks after the season ends.
What do we think Chatterers? -
cruiser_96I'm in. The question is, will the kids be?
-
ksig489MSL team this year may look something like this:
103 - ?
112 - Price (LH), Regoli (BC), Branham (WJ)
119 - Knul (CV), Feucht (WJ), Parsons (LV)
125 - Ankrom (BC), Hutchins (CW)
130 - Boswell (CW), Reichle (WJ)
135 - Dunlap (LH), Davis (CV), Ratcliff (WJ)
140 - Luft (TV), Maynard (LH)
145 - ?
152 - Barlowe (H), Gibson (BC)
160 - Prather (WJ), Robinson (H)
171 - King (LW), Leidecker (TV), Clark (WH)
189 - Harble (LV), Kent (GV), Fultz (WJ)
215 - Redman (LV), Drumm (H), Satterthwaite (GH)
285 - Pressley (CW), Settles (HT), Willis (GV)
Im sure there would be some movement due to kids being able to eat all they want next week...but this still makes a pretty sollid lineup. -
funkem123No kid that has been cutting this season will do this...the only thing they're going to be doing after state for a while is eating!!!!!
-
cruiser_96Two things:
#1 - If that's your line up, ksig, retreat. ... NOW!!!The OCC will bury you with our water boys!!!
#2 - funkem: It's a deal. All proceeds will buy pizza to be eaten AFTER the match. ...and it's just that simple!
Admission is $4 for adults, 28 kids per league, let's go 25 for easy math... At this pace we might be able to go $3 at the door, but anywho...
I'm in. -

Thats why we give them +5 and they arent locked into their state weight classes if they dont want to be. -
ksig48928 kids, average 2 family per kid
56 x 4 = $224
Figure we would draw another 300 spectators (probably more)
300 x 4 = $1200
Total $1424...Pay 2 refs, not many other expenses than that...leaves at least $1000 for charity/Scholarship. Maybe a $500 scholarship for an OCC kid and an MSL kid each. -
cruiser_9660/40 split on the scholly. The kid on the winning league of the dual taking in the larger portion. (Kind of like the winner of baseball's All-Star game. It is still that way, right? WInner of the AS game, that league has home field advantage for the World Series???)
-
ksig489Kid cant help if his team isnt as good. Also...us MSLers are underdogs against the mighty OCC every year. I'd rather it be an even split.
So...do we need to start contacting coaches or what? -
legman1Good idea, but kids gain weight after they are done. Branham is now 136, Ratcliff 160 and Fultz 210.
-
Head_KnightWhat would the OCC line up look like???
-
ksig489Could Branham get to 130 and wrestle "125"? Ratcliff to 157? Not every kid on that list has to wrestle in this either.
Years ago, Bart Friedenburg put something like this together in the summer when he had all-stars from all over the state compete on 4 teams. If he was able to do that over the summer from the whole state, why cant we get this done?
Maybe we could even eventually expand it to include the MOAC and other leagues...maybe a 4th "league" that includes several of the smaller leagues. -
iGranbyill toss out some names in some weights i know for OCC - ohio
103: Spearman, Straughter
119: Hunter, Strope
135: Reynolds, McDougle, Hinze
140: Howes, Brokaw, Syfers
145: Corder, Funk, Sunkle
152: Strohschein, Kowaleski
not much, just what i know.. -
knightflyer150In Stark County, we did our all-star event after the post season. It was a blast. I think we did +7, because I know I made "135". Coaches used All-County selections as a guide, but really just matched people who everyone wanted to see wrestle. Ken Lacure and I wrestled because we hadn't during the year (for record, I jumped out early, then fell victim to that Lacure tilt). They did and East vs. West and all that was on the line was pride. Everyone had a blast and very little sctratches!
Why the heck do we do ours in pre-season? -
cruiser_96KF150: Seeds 2, 3 and 4 on the same side. Need I say more?
-
GmanThis would be a blast if it were actually real!! If so the real question would be what do the wrestlers think and would they show?
-
wildcats1984Anyone have a thought on what OCC's top three per weight classs...
-
GoVikesDid I see WJ with Ratcliff @ like 171 this year? Now 135? brother/cousin? The kid I saw did not look a pound underweight for 171?
-
Ralph JonesSo Branham wrestled at 112 five days ago and now weighs 136?
-
bribacker51This would be great and I hope it happens but not to change the topic I wish we could go back to a all Mid-State league Championship and the same with the OCC talk about two great Central Ohio tourneys sure would be fun to watch!

Sounds reasonable to me when you cut that much weight you let lose in the end and you r body takes in everything it can get -
Ralph JonesI guess the point is don't cut so much weight.
