RESULTS: John S. Rarey Invitational JV Tournament hosted by Groveport Madison
-
cruiser_96Before I begin... I want to take the time to thank everyone involved. From staff, to wrestlers, to parents, fans and friends. It was a huge undertaking, and, although I seriously doubt any of our staff read this forum, I wanted to say thank you. We could not have done it without you.
As for the tournament... Gobs of wrestlers!!! 236 to be exact. 22 weight classes (8 weight classes were split due to having more than 16 wrestlers). 4 mats and a small gym... not great conditions but I thought it was a great opportunity for the JV kids. As far as the kids go, it was AWESOME to see their excitement as the team scores went up! Even the fans got into it!
Now for the team scores (individual results will go up tomorrow when I get the pools in my hand)...
183.5 Dublin Scioto
161.5 Hilliard Davidson
156.5 Thomas Worthinton
131.5 Licking Valley
127.0 Groveport
126.5 Pickerington Central
121.5 Olentangy
113.5 Walnut Ridge
109.0 Hilliard Darby
87.5 Gahanna
86.5 Unioto
58.5 Hilliard Bradley
58.0 Canal Winchester
54.0 Mt. Vernon
50.5 Marion Franklin
35.0 Hamilton Township
20.0 Bishop Hartley

16.0 Brookhaven
Once again, thanks to everyone made the day possible! -
Dad4SportsAny results for the CW kids? Thanks
-
cruiser_96The 103 pounder did well, as did Banks. 103 was able to score 32 point and Banks racked up 14 for the team.
Again, when I get the results, I'll be able to tell you more. -
Go4alOngbOmBI know the skill set needed and pain in the behind it is to run a JV meet! (I believe you used to come to the Newark one when I ran it Cruiser) SO congrats on the turn out! I'm sure is has nothing to do with your sparkling good looks, personality, and the fact you may be the most popular man in Central Ohio next to Jym Ghanal! lol

slow-n-steadygreat job cruiser!

cruiser_96I have the results and will post them. But only after I spend some time with the boy. See you in a few...

. . . but awarding a 2009 Whitehall Youth Wrestling Tournament medal to at least one third place finisher of one of the weight classes [presumably because of a lack of actual John S. Rarey Invitational JV Tournament medals given the number of split weight classes], is at best classless and certainly is demeaning to that wrestler and his efforts! -

And what would you have called giving him nothing at all? I guess I'm darned if I do, darned if I don't, eh?PAIronman;642782 wrote:... is at best classless and certainly is demeaning to that wrestler and his efforts!
We had 20 medals per top three waiting. Found those in a box in our office. I thought it was better than nothing. You (presumably) do not. It is certainly not our desire to demean anyone's hard work or efforts. -

Maybe not as much as I have already called it. I would hope that I could have done differently. Perhaps, after the brackets were posted by 9 and I realized I had 2 more than medals, I could have tried to get more that Saturday. At a minimum I would have at least offered to replace the "placeholder" one I did give. If I was from GM, I'd at worst be explaining to either, 119 - Consolation: Jones (GM); 135-A - Consolation: Hampton (GM-x); 145-A - Consolation: Taylor (GM); and/or, 215 - Consolation: Dotson (GM), why I didnt have a medal for them at that time, but that I would be getting them one. But, I guess that's just me. -
cruiser_96You are right. I guess that is you. And the day you host your tournament, that is how it will go down. And to that, I say great job.
But, as it turns out, and having the luxury of hindsight, that is not how it went down for us.
Once again, thanks to all who helped that day. All of your support did not go unnoticed. To the wrestlers for their hard days work. To the family, fans and friends... ThAnks for supporting your team!
See everyone next year for the John S. Rarey Classic! -

That, too, was a great tournament. Excellent work by the Whitehall staff.
I tried to play nice. Stop. Now.

Don't talk anymore... -
slow-n-steadyDUDE!!! really?
I like the fact that many teams got to wrestle ALL of the kids on their rosters multiple matches, which may of never happened if motivated people didn't work their a$$ of to make it happen. Getting to wrestle matches is a reward in its self. We wrestle to wrestle, not receive awards! -
Dad4Sportsslow-n-steady.....I agree completely! PA knock it off. We're talking high school kids in a JV tournament, not some biddy kids looking for their medal. I guess Groveport should have just said, "we don't have enough medals to go around, so we're not going to add the extra brackets." Are you kidding me?!! Let's see.....what's more valuable? Live match mat time vs. a 99 cent medal? Unbelievable!!!!!
I think my son has 4 or 5 medals from previous Groveport open tournaments gathering dust in his box of medals....PM me your address, and I'll see if we can mail you one. -
cruiser94I do appologize. It was my call to give them out.
I hope we can get this figured out by Jan 29th or we will hear it.
I found out today from the Whitehall coach we easily could have pealed off the placard on the back.
PA if its not too late. Go ahead and peel it off. TAKE A SHARPIE MARK IT 3RD PLACE.
No one is looking, mark it 1st.
We will take that problem any time to ensure a solid # of matches with propper match-ups.
We added 8 weight classes. That is at least 60 extra bodies to get 3-5 matches.
I would like to say. I spent alot of time in the back but, there was constant wrestling on 4 mats from 9:40am until 8:15??? I dont know the exact time.
But in that whole time there was only one 20 min break. I had a couple of my one parents mention that they did not have a chance to get their childs picture due to the pace of the delivery and the fact that it came out of no-where.
The 189 weight class award followed the 152 pound weight class. and situations such as that happened quite often.
One official approached me near the end of the semi final round if we were pausing for awards or holding matches to make sure the weight classes wrestled together. I said absolutely not. He seemed a bit suprised.
I just can not add 30 min to one of the longest days of wrestling (2nd to the ToC)) just for a medal.
Thanks to everyone that made it possible. -
lowsingle174Nice work Cruiser. My kids had a good experience. Now, get out a thread and needle, and MAKE me a quilt that has my wrestlers name on it and his place or I will come on this forum under an alias and try to berate you for your efforts. CHUMP SESSION..
