Dad4SportsGreat tournament! I know there were quite a few things that popped up that the tournament organizers didn't anticipate....kudos to them for persevering through everything to put on a great show....
Congrats to the Canal Winchester boys! A top 10 finish with 4 weights open is a good result for them. Brady Hutchins (Bucksman D2 #5) pinned projected D2 champ Tre Smith (125) in the semis on his way to a 7-1 weekend (6 pins). Dalton Tullius (130) was unseeded but knocked off the #2 seed in pool action and continued through to an overall runner-up finish as he also went 7-1. Other Indians placers: 112 Nick Brady 4th, 135 Joe Boswell 7th, 103 Jake Sharp (8th).
CW had tough luck as 2 wrestlers lost out on advancing to the 8 man brackets when they lost tie breakers after all 3 guys in their pools went 1-1. 285 Nate Pressley was 7-1 but did not place, and 215 Eric Banks topped #1 seed and eventual champ Joe Whisler but did not make it to the bracket....big possible team points lost there.
Still....many positives to take from this weekend.....hard to believe we are heading down the home stretch already as sectionals are only 5 weeks away! -
Standoff22This was a great weekend of wrestling. Saw many great matches even in the first round. The lighter weight classes were especially fun to watch. At 103 Fields (Pleasant) completely dominated the whole thing. His toughest match was a near tech fall to a very tough Straughter (Reynoldsburg). 112 had alot of good competition in it. The # 1 seed got 7th! Showing how tough a weight class it was. Penzone (Liberty) was very impressive, beating Cheng who is a solid wrestler. Edwards (RV) was also impressive finishing third. The Cheng Edwards match was a great one coming down to the last second. 119 was very fun to watch. McLaughlin (NY) stepped up and showed he should not be left off any list for top contenders in the state after beating Nelson in a steller match. McCurdy also impressed me. He gave McLuaghlin quite the match and the had a good performance for third. 125 was my favorite weight to watch. Although I didnt get to see the Heminger Smith match up I wanted to see it was still exciting. Hutchins wrestling an amazing tourney and Heminger showed why he is one of the best there is.
