Fun facts for this past season's DI Central District Tournament

  • cruiser_96
    Yes, it IS that time of the summer that I begin jonesing for information concerning last season and use it to look forward for the upcoming season. If you, too, are bored, feel free to look over these bits of datum.

    Weight Class = Seniors lost per weight class, (of those lost, how many placed, and then where.)

    103 = 0

    112 = 3, (2 - 1st and 6th)

    119 = 4, (1 - 3rd)

    125 = 7, (3 - 1st, 2nd & 6th)

    130 = 7, (4 - 2nd, 3rd, 5th & 6th)

    135 = 9, (4 - 1st, 2nd, 4th & 6th)

    140 = 7, (4 - 1st, 2nd, 4th & 5th)

    145 = 9, (3 - 1st, 2nd & 6th)

    152 = 8, (4 - 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th)

    160 = 6, (2 - 1st & 6th)

    171 = 11, (6 - All six placewinners were seniors.)

    189 = 8, (5 - 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th)

    215 = 8, (4 - 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 6th)

    285 = 8, (5 - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th & 6th)

    I don't know... just sayin'.

    Btw: That's an average of 3.36 wrestlers who have graduated!

    Gotta tell ya, I'd hate to be that .36 of a person! Har har har...

    Yeah... that bored...

    Concerning the top 5 Central District teams (based on underclassmen points)...

    1. Hilliard Davidson: Return 7 of 8 DQs. Overall record for underclassmen @ Darby: 20-10, with 4 placers.

    3. Olentangy Liberty: Return 9 of 11 DQs. Overall record for underclassmen @ Darby: 12-19, with 1 placer.

    5. Gahanna: Return 5 of 6 DQs. Overall record for underclassmen @ Darby: 12-9, with 3 placers.

    6. Mount Vernon: Return 7 of 8 DQs. Overall record for underclassmen @ Darby: 11-14, with 1 placer.

    7. Marysville: Return 4 of 10 DQs. Overall record for underclassmen @ Darby: 8-8, with 3 placers.

    So is Hilliard favored to win or does one of the Dayton schools have a bunch coming back?

    Springboro has/had the second most underclassmen points for the district tournament. However, there have been rumblings of whether or not all will be returning. We won't know until sectionals I'm sure.

    As for Hilliard being favored to win... with just this info, you certainly can't deny their chances. They are very good from top to bottom and have star power. But then again, it is July. So, take it for what it's worth. Grades, girls, lifting for football... who KNOWS what could happen between now and then. But as I said, they certainly cannot be overlooked.

    I think Mount Vernon and Gahanna will be in the mix though. Coach Brown has always gotten the most out of his kids. And Coach Bentley is reaping the benefits of putting in those early years at Gahanna.

    Olentangy Liberty is probably the worst of the bunch because their coaching staff is just so unfortuanate. I mean, I even heard they stooped to a WHOLE new low this year for their camp... they invited ME! to do a session!!!!!!!! Just too bad, too. I really thought that they could be the team to beat in a dual meet format in Central Ohio. I also had them pegged, based on last year's returners, as a definite top 5 - possibly even top 3 - team as far as coaches polls were concerned, as well as District Tournament placement was concerned. But they went and let my juices ooze onto their mats. They are DOOMED for mediocrity. Or I'm running low on ways to say that the Patriots will be very tough this year, so I thought I'd spice it up with some self-deprecating humor! Yeah, that's probably more like it. :D Good luck, Patriots!

    Who is your eye on, romulus??? I mean, other than KSU's 149 pounder.

    I actually think that Davidson is an early favorite in the District (depending on what Dayton brings). Not only do they return 7 district qualifiers, 4 of which were placers, but they did that while going through that rough Westland Sectional. I am sure that a couple "District Quality Kids" did not make it out of that Sectional from their team... Davis at 103 comes to mind (he is very good).

    I would not count out Marysville! Andrews does great things out there, and they have some very committed kids.

    Mt. Vernon may have been the most improved team in Central Ohio last year from start to finish. Brown is phenomenal. I look for them to be very tough.

    I must admit, I was surprised by Gahanna, Liberty and Orange last post season. They both have quality coaches and proved it at Sectionals and Districts. I look for them to contend with top teams in the District.

    One other team to look out for, in my opinion, is Grove City. They showed some fire power at Sectionals, but may have peaked a week or two early. I feel they will be a confident bunch come next season.

    A couple teams that I wonder about are Dublin Coffman and Teays Valley. Both of these teams lost some good seniors, but they are deep programs right now. I see them as dark horses this season.

    You are just saying that because he's a Golden Flash!!!!! (However, in all efforts of objectivity, you certainly can't deny the results of the last 5 years!)

    I agree will Dublin Coffman and Teays Valley. Also tough, always tough from top to bottom in the line up.

    Grove City's coach has presented his team with some excellent opportunities to better themselves this summer. I, for one, am excited to see how things shaped up over the summer months. (Well, not too much as they are in our league so I'm hoping that every kid on the team sat on the couch and ate chocolate all summer long but then again not too much chocolate because I like it too so that would mean there would be less for me so maybe I'll change their food of choice to twinkies because let's face it, in the world of food that I hope the Grove City team is eatting, Little Debbies would CRUSH the Hostess brand because Swiss Cake Rolls and Oatmeal cream pies ABSOLUTELY rule and zebra cakes - the yellow kind -are an amazingly close third so I'll give them the entire Hostess catalog to eat on this way I'm not missing out on anything... where was I going with this... oh well. Gotta run. I have a date with an entire box of a Little Debbie treat!)

    So yeah, anyways, you have to love the DI Olentangies and the Hilliards as well as Coffman, Marysville and Mt. Vernon.

    See you guys soon after the sugar coma wears off!

    cruiser most of my attention is focused on college but #1 son is coaching at Mason its amazing how fast one can lose touch. I have heard the springboro rumors also but dont want to jinx anyone. Gahanna's my darkhorse nice to see someone different in the mix!

    Here are the top 10 point-scorers based on underclassmen. Central District-ly speaking.

    I kept the Dayton gang - but didn't high light them - as a way to guage where their teams will/could/should fit in come late February.

    I think in a dual meet format, this line up will change. But either way, I'm excited to see how it plays out.
